I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the new Winchester E-Tip lead free ammo. I was just looking at the new Cabelas shooting catalog and saw this stuff. Looks like size and caliber are somewhat limited to the 30 cal (308, 06, and 300 win). Due to the fact that more and more areas will probably go to lead free ammo I am looking for options because I do not reload. The only other ammo I know of is Barnes. Anyone hear of anything else that is lead free????

To my knowledge it's currently Barnes and Nosler. The Nosler E-tip is currently available in 30 Cal 180 grain and a 150 grain will soon be available. The Barnes stuff is about $35 dollar a box and the Nosler offerings are about $31 dollars a box (these are bullets at the component level) The Barnes bullets are available in a wide array of Calibers and weights but they are pretty different in reloading characteristics than standard bullets. I would need to go through a complete load development cycle to use the Barnes offerings. I deer hunt in lead baneed areas so I need to develop a non-lead load pretty soon. I haven't received any load data on the Nosler offerings yet, hopefully they will be similar and pretty well replaceable with their current offerings in my current load recipes.

The Winchester/Nosler eTips are being reviewed right now. I've got a couple of boxes coming, but we had some delays. I'll report as soon as they get here, though.

As of the last time I checked, Nosler was NOT going to be selling the loading components separately yet.

As Val mentioned, they are also only going to be in the .30 caliber offering for now. I"ll be doing some digging on this at SHOT next week though. I'm guessing that production is going to step up in light of the CA ban and the strong possibility that AZ will be following suit.
