I'm taking my oldest son Lane out tomorrow night after work for his first elk hunt. He helped me drop my cow elk this year on opener and now it's his turn. He has a beautifull area and with some luck will do well. He's now 13 and I could have only dreamed of hunting my first elk at that age so I'm proud to get him out.
He was given my uncle's 300 Weatherby Mag as a gift just for this hunt and couldn't be more excited. The gun has a long family history and was hand made by him back in 1961. The photo attached shows my uncle with his buffalo he took hunting with the Cree indians in the North West Territory by the Great Slave Lake out of Yellowknife.
His tag opens on Friday the 20th zones 072 through 074. Wish us luck.:)

Have a great trip, sounds like one where memories will be made, especially using a rifle as special as that one.

Good luck and be safe!

Imagine the number of 13 year olds that never even set foot in the woods, let alone get to hunt.

Will wait for pictures.
