Does anybody know the rules for the Wister camping area in the back?

How long can you leave a trailer there? It seems that there are always trailers back there that don't move throughout the season. I'm considering buying an older 5'er and would like to leave it down there during the season.

FS - When I was down there a month ago, I was told people really only get 2 weeks at a time...but it wasn't really enforced during the season.

Not sure who to contact but if you leave it there, I would sure want assurance from the area manager that it was ok for a longer timeframe than 2 weeks.

The refuges up north all have permit processes and you have certain rules for keeping the trailer on the property but it has to be removed at the end of the season. They sign a ‘contract’ to keep them up here.

Good luck. I'm sure others on here will have more details than what I just ‘heard’.

this might be bad info but what i was told was that the trailers couln't stay in the same spot for more than two weeks. i just have a 6x10 decoy trailer that would be moved every weekend when dad or i hunt so if that's the case i'd be legal. Dont know how big of a trailer you are gonna get but if you move it around the lot every couple weeks and the info i was given is correct than you should be fine.

There could be no assurances that it will be OK. The rules are the rules. As long as no one complains, it is likely to be allowed. No one among the Wister Staff is running around with a rule book looking to fowl up someone's day. (pun intended) If it gets to the point that too many people leave their rigs for too long, and it gets tough for the regular guy to park his truck and have a campfire, they will have to crack down.
Also, if they appoint a new head muckety -muck, the whole deal could change overnight.
I would buy the thing and worry later!

I talked with the staff out there and they said you are not supposed to leave trailers there and if you did it could get towed.

However, in general it seems pretty lax there and I doubt anything would happen.

I know I would not leave a trailer there myself. Maybe I would if I knew someone that has left their trailer there for a long time without troubles. Maybe next year drive out there in the middle of the week and see if there are trailers out there. Of course that would be a big hassle.

Also, I talked with Jesse out there a month ago and he told me that there was a place in Niland where people left their trailers, however there was no security, just a chain link fence and many trailers got broken into.

You may want to look into the mineral springs area near the Leaping Lizzard.
Outdoorplay leaves his trailer there year round for a small fee... I think it's $50 a month.

the place in niland is called the oasis. i have left my trailer there for three years with no problems but was told a couple got broken into last season. dont think it's gonna stay there next year. it's nice to leave it down there but dont really like the idea of having to replace a duck and snow goose spread along with all the other stuff that stays there.

I know elmer fudd here leaves his trailer at a place just up the road. I think it's called Covina RV Estates or Covina RV Park and hasn't had any problems and I think he pays about $15 dollars a month with hook ups. The park has people who live there all year round and keep an eye on things for you. You should check it out.

Oasis has become a den of thieves. They have broken into my trailer twice and busted my side windows there. They stole my new refridgerator and decoy cart. I'm outta there.

Last year there were many break ins of trailers all over the Niland area. The duck club I am with across the 111 from wister had every trailer broken into last summer. And other stuff trashed. Looked like typical drugged up idiots. They only stole tools and air conditioners. They left my hand carved decoys and even a couple boxes of ammo. But the broken windows and locks ripped off was the biggest mess. The locals have some ideas who did it. I guess some residents were just released from jail and came back into town at the same time. But the local sherrif wouldn't do any dusting for prints or look for any evidence or even get a decent list of items stolen. So they still haven't caught anyone. I always look over the swap meet and garage sales in the area for anything from the club.

For trailer parking, you might want to look into some local people. I am sure many local farmers would be willing to let you park the trailer on their land for a small nominal fee. $100 for them buys alot of cheap beer.

Its called "Corvina Estates" its up North a bit, but not too far. Close to North Shore
I talked to a guy, I don't remember who, but he had a place in Niland, but go tired of bringing a new TV every time they went down there. He finally gave up when he had to buy a new toilet several times in a row, and now parks a trailer at Corvina Estates. Low cost, and no break-ins.
