what exactly are we looking at? the head/mouth?
also what are camera setting details?

I basically took a 640x480 pixel crop of the head of the spider. I reversed a 35-50 mm lens on the camera and shot at 1/500 f22, working distance is about 2 inches, I also used the onboard flash with a white film canister asa flash diffuser.

When reversing a lens like this you simply move the camera closer to the subject until you "find focus".

The camera was hand held.

The neat thing about macros and digital format is you can spend hours taking pics of neat stuff......

Nikon has a mounting ring (BR2A) that will allow you to screw it to the filter threads of a lens. The lens is mounted on the camera backwards, this allows the close up or (macro) shot. It then has to be used manually. Most DSLR cameras should have a ring of this type available to use. The wider the lens the better the magnification. The 50mm prime lens is very sharp.
focusing is achieved by moving the camera to the proper location of focus, not the focusing ring... This is a poor mans macro!
