I know it's a little late, but I have been swamped this last week getting ready for my 3rd mate's test in Dec. So, here goes.
I got permission to hunt some family property down south. I have been there before and seen a ton of sign and a pig before shooting hours, so I know there are animals there. I got to my house last Friday at about 2:30 pm and needed to sight in my rifle. After a bunch of bullets (because I turned the windage and elevation the wrong way) I finally got it done with 3 bullets left. Time to go hunt (with 3 bullets)! LOL. I got there and the wind was perfect. Slight Santa Anas witht the wind blowing up the canyon. I crept around the edge of the "jungle" which is really swampy and full of reeds. I sat and listened every 50 ft or so. I knew if there were pigs in there it would be better to have an idea of where they were before I just went commando into the bush. I got to the SW corner of the swamp and heard some shuffling. I figured it was pigs, but was not quite sure. I crept into the shadows with the wind in my face and waited and listened. There was a nice little wallow about 40 yrds from where I set up. Then all of a sudden there were 4 little piggies, they were only about 15#. I watched them for a few minutes at about 15 yrds and they had no idea I was there. Then I saw and heard a larger pig in the water by the wallow! I figured it was about 100# and waited for a broadside shot. She turned and I put one high in the shoulder (got the spine) and she dropped. I waited a couple minutes to make sure she wasn't gonna get up and she didn't. I called my buddy on my cell and told him the story (whispering) as I went to my pig. I was shaking with excitement as this was my first pig! I was talking to my bud when another pig came to the wallow and was less than 15 yrds. I was dumbfounded! I asked my buddy if I should shoot it and he said, "hell ya!. So with the cell phone in one hand I raised my rifle and shot the second pig (my buddy heard the whole thing). The pig squealed and took off. Now, I was shaking even more. My buddy was luaghing his arse off. I could hear pigs all around me and I was out of tags and only had 1 more bullet for self-defense. I screwed up tracking the second pig, so I went back to the spot I shot it and tried to calm down. It was almost dark and it was super super thick in there (tunnels everywhere) and I was a little uneasy about the situation. I decided to try tracking the second one, again! Blood, blood, lung, blood it was much easier to follow now that I had calmed down. The pig went about 25 yrds and was in a thick patch of reeds. I picked it up and put it on my shoulders and hiked her to my truck. Now, it was dark and i still had to deal with the big one. I got back to her (she was in the mud) and tried to move her. No go! I had thought she was 100#, but she was more like 220+#. What to do? So, I gutted her and then chopped her in half, after I inched her out of the mud and onto dry ground. Well, the halves were still heavy! I finally got her outta there and to my truck (4 trip ,becuase I had to go back and get some rope) LOL. I haven't been that exited for a while. I have been hunting pigs (with a bow) for about 3 years and was really happy to get one on my own. I decided to use a rifle since I was hunting alone and in really thick stuff, but I will be going back with bow in hand very soon! Sorry this was so long!

That's a great story, congrats on your first hogs. Sounds like a killer spot to get a hog with the bow, good luck.

Good job! Nothing beats the thrill of going in the brush after a wounded animal, and not being sure of what to expect. The first time is the most intense, but the thrill never goes away.
