Spectr17,
Thanks for the congrats. Definitely will take my digital camera and post the pics. God Bless, always.

Ozstriker22,
I believe the "free" hunt conditions does not allow in a group more than one "free" hunter. As we all know it is a marketing tool. The "free" hunt allows the "free" hunter to come alone, but not with another "free" hunter in a group. The marketing tool intent is to have the "free" hunter to come with his paying buddies or "free" hunt alone. Most people will prefer to hunt with their buddies and bring along a paying buddy hunter. I am expecting a good "free" hunt experience from the ranch, I am just not allowed to bring in my group another "free" hunter. Since the wild hogs breed and multiply fast at the high fenced ranch, I guess this marketing tool worksout for them. God Bless.

Iahuntr, you were asking if there were any place to hunt wild hogs in Oklahoma. Wild pigs are all over Oklahoma. For a cheap you pig hunt you might try out the National forest outside of Atoka, Oklahoma. It is public land, but they charge a $15.00 for the permit to hunt on the 200,000 acres or so. I was told to my face by a father that took his three sons to hunt there, that they killed five of eight hogs they saw one day on one of his hunts. There are so many hogs there that the state uses a helicopter with a sniper aboard to hunt down and kill will hogs. Last year, they killed 1,500. There is, also, wild pigs and javelina in some of the national forests in southeast Texas. That is public land you can hunt on if you have a hunting license, which can be purchased at Wal-mat there in Texas.

As with most hunts in public land, scouting is essential. 200,000 acres is a GIGANTIC piece of property. Finding the concentration of wild hogs is a major adventure in itself. Probably need a minimum of 2-3 days for scouting, actual stalking and ambush of pig highways, skinning and pulling out of camp will probably take 5-7 days plus the roundtrip driving time. Hopefully the hunter will connect and harvest hogs. As usual on these public hunts, you could be stalking a pig highway and another hunter comes up on the scene and ruins your hog ambush. Paid hog hunts on ranches with feeders, baits, hog highways already patterned and identified, and the ultimate is the high fence enclosure for assurance that the hunter will get a shot(a kill is not assured as the hunter can keep missing his shots and not connect at all) is for time pressured hunters an attractive option. Public land hunts are doable but the effort required to connect is several times greater than a paid hunt on a private ranch. Hey whatever works!!! 'Nuff said.

Hmm...I just won one too:) I hope they know what they are doing, giving away all those free hunts. I do understand how this marketing initiative is supposed to work, but hey, what if over 50% of "winners" come alone?:D

I checked the Hunt Calendar of Wildhoghunt.com for the date of March 21, 2007 and there are only 4 spots open. That means there are already 6 hunters booked to hunt that date. I must say that Ducslayer is right, "have fun no matter what." God Bless and happy trip. May you get a nice hog. 'Nuff said.

just got back from my hunt... WORTHLESS. DO NOT GO! 12 people on less than 300 acres. VERY dangerous. saw a small group of hogs wednesday afternoon, never saw anything again. not one person got a single shot at ANYTHING. 8 people didn't even see a single hog. this place was more like a petting zoo than anything. bison and elk everywhere, but they're TAME! you can literally HAND FEED THEM! who would pay for that?

to top it off, the skinner said there has been next to no hogs on the property for a long time.

i won the hunt for free, and it wasn't worth my gas money...

Damn--so sorry to hear that. You have a current, up to date experience on this guys property and that is your personal experience. Thanks for throwing it up and letting the world hear.

Again, sorry to hear you feel it wasn't even worth your gas money...

It really should be a good warning for those of us who use this sight here at Jesse's. Most of the regulars here will give you their honest opinion because they have nothing to gain otherwise. Most of us hate losing our hard earned money and I will gladly steer my fellows hunters away from them experiencing a lousy time as well. I posted to this original request and entered info in detail on what a lousy time we had, the lousy food, the lousy piece of dirt they call a ranch, and the horrible hospitality from the staff at this property.

For all those that are new to this board - take the comments and personal experiences of those regulars on this board as something of value. Most people, especially those with nothing to gain, will give you an honest opinion for free; and most of the time it will be pretty accurate. Sorry we sincerely tried to warn you - nothing is free. All others - this is a complete SCAM !!!

Majkowskid,
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I paid a $50 deposit back in Dec. 2006 for the free hog hunt that I won and I scheduled a March 2007 hog hunt. Fortunately I have to attend to some personal matters so I re-scheduled the free hog hunt to Oct. 2007. Otherwise I would have driven(expensive gas) or I would have flown via Southwest Airlines and found out for myself that it is a big let down with this free hog hunt. With your personal experience being as it is, I am not going anymore. It definitely is a big let down. Thanks for the info.
'Nuff said.
