Hi there everyone. I just asking to see how the unit has been haven’t been back in 9 yrs. With that said. I have 9 points was thinking about trying my luck up in the X9a unit. What are your thoughts ? Has anyone been up there last yr? Don’t need your honey hole area just asking for some input on the unit. Thanks guys

Might as well go the first year you have enough points . I camp over that way and don’t see as many deer as I did 9 years ago . But that’s pretty true of the eastern Sierra. Still some nice deer to be had in sure. I’m hoping to hunt the southern portion of x12. I see potential for points to creep in that zone though

I would hunt X9a after I did some research/scouting and confirmed I could find some bucks the year prior. Nothing is guaranteed but the more work you put in before your hunt will definitely help improve your chances for a successful hunt. plan some camping/fishing trips to learn where the deer are hanging out. I've never had a bad time camping or fishing in that country. Good luck.

Id like to try. Heard from someone that went few years back and they were harassed by non-hunters in campsite. Not sure if that common or not?

I’ve only been harassed twice while hunting both in D14 many years ago. I did not respond with class and or Dignity . These were both serious confrontations that got me beyond angry. I look back and doubt I would respond differently now . I’ve had many encounters with Anti hunters while not in the field and Ive handled them much better. When they try to block my access or blare their horn and trash my vehicle. kinda gets me a little crazy

I love x12 country. Last time I hunted it there were a ton of average bucks, saw a couple good ones and my hunting partner got a nice 4x4 . I got my venison the last weekend . between my brother and I we have 17pts. It would have got us a tag last year . Looking at the detailed drawing stats a lot of people with 8 didn’t get it last year . It looks like might take 9 this year . I’ll let you know if we get in!

Don't overlook some of the late muzzy hunts either...thinking I may go this route in order to draw a tag while I'm still vertical.

Does anyone have camp site suggestions for x9a that would be less likely to have anti's in it?

My dad had a run in with a guy in D 14 while he was trapping. It didn’t go well for the poor bloke. My dad was old but still remembered much of his military training. Guy took a swing. Dad ducked made One downward angled drive to the knee with his foot. all it took. My dad said he left him rolling around on the ground moaning.Dad reported it at the ranger station. Ranger said “ you carry a gun you should have shot him” 😳

People are crazy from the heat down there or something! I was walking up a forest service road bow hunting and a guy in a brightly painted vw van, long scraggly hair. Van smelled like cheech was in it. He had a distinct euro accent and started giving me a hard time. Guess there was a hippie camp on the ranch or something . He was saying I can't hunt up there. Blah blah . I told him there was some public land I was headed too. And literally started calling me a Bambi killer etc etc. I got enraged , put my bow on the ground and starting going after him and told him my explicit plans for him and he was yelling something about how violent we Americans are as he was driving away . If he only let me catch him . I'm still pissed off about that one !
