Have you guys tried grinning down them mean boars?

Daniel Boone, when he lived in MO, used to grin down bears to save bullets. Ya just get the goofiest grin on your face you can muster and then wade in on them with a big Arkansas pig sticker in your hand. The goofy grin instead of running or panicking confuses the animal and gives you time to apply the coup de gracie.

Mileage may vary.

Spectr17:

I had a buddy who did just that. He was a fan of Dan'l Boone and Davy Crockett and the like. Anyway, he met face to face with Ol' Griz up in Yukon, maybe at a distance of 5 feet. My buddy, who we called Joe in those days, remembered reading Dan'l Boone's suggestion to grin at the bear and he did just that. The bear froze in its tracks. Joe was so amazed that he reached out his right hand and touched the face of the mesmerized bear.

Haven't heard from him for years. Wonder how Ol' Lefty is doing these days.

Aloha Doc, Wow nice pua'a, great story. I've been charged once by a boar but one round of 44 mag to the spine dropped him. That picture of the Laupahoehoe terrain looks just as I remembered it i'm glad that hasn't changed. My buddy uses a zero magnification aimpoint red-dot on his rifle, works great for close & thick situations. I just got out of a week of hospital stay after almost 8 hours of surgery but looks like i'm recovering quicker than expected though bone fusion still will take 6 months, I also have to wear a body brace for minimum 2 months while fusion sets up. In the mean time I live my hunting hopes thru your posts. Mahalo a nui loa, Ji

Glad you're out of the hospital and on the way to recovery. Hope if all works out for you, which I'm sure it will. Going to the Forest Reserve right next to Laupahoehoe on Sunday with some friends. Will be hiking and wildlife watching but not hunting. I'll keep the posts coming and you concentrate on healing.

Aloha for now.
