WY G&F

Contact: Amy McKernan (307) 733-2321
For Immediate Release
LARAMIE -- Vicki Herren, a fire ecologist for the Bureau of Land Management has been elected president of the Wyoming Chapter of the Wildlife Society.
Vicki has been a member of the Wyoming Chapter of TWS since 1992. She served as the WY Chapter Secretary in 2000-01 and as the Central Mountains and Plains Section Newsletter Editor 1998-2000. She has presented papers on boreal owls, pronghorn mitigation, bat gate installation and BLM sensitive species.
As president, she encourages the interagency networking among a wide variety of members in our state through The Wildlife Society. “Whether we call ourselves partners, collaborators or team members, wildlife and wildlife habitat management has to be researched, planned and implemented together,” says Herren, who is stationed in Cheyenne.
Tim Thomas, wildlife biologist for the Game and Fish Department in Sheridan, was elected treasurer. Thomas has been a member since 1987 and was the president of the University of Montana student chapter from 1989-90. He has served as a G&F wildlife biologist for 11 years and previously served as the chapter’s treasurer from 1996-2000.
The chapter’s new board member at large is Martin Grenier, the G&F’s nongame mammal biologist in Lander. He began his Wildlife Society membership in 1997 in the California North Coast Chapter.
The Wyoming Chapter of the Wildlife Society has 230 members and seeks to provide an organization of wildlife management professionals throughout the state without agency barriers. Members promote and provide for intradisciplinary communication and training to keep at the same level of modern needs and technological developments in wildlife management.
(New Director: Grenier is pronounced gren-YAY.)
