We are up here in the sticks for my daughters first big game hunt. For the last two years we have come to 6A. Both years someone filled their tag. 2 years ago my dad and I. Last year my nephew on the youth hunt.
Well the word must have gotten out about the area we hunt. There are hunters everywhere. The elk are so skiddish its nuts. We jumped two this morning within 30yds and by the time my daughter got her gun up the elk were gone. They jumped up stood for 2 seconds and bolted in different directions at a full on run.
In the past we have jumped them and they either stand there or run about 15yds and stop.
There are way too many people around here. Too bad. I would have liked for my daughter to be successful on her first hunt.
We just started coming to this unit in 2011 and don't get to scout due to the distance we live and everyone's work schedule. So when we found a good spot with very few hunters and it produced 2yrs in a row we came back to the same spot. Man what a let down.
this year we only have Fri-Sun because of my kids school and work issues..... So tomorrow morning we will head out for a few hours and then pack up til next year.
by the way. Hi, new member here. Been reading for a while and decided to join today. Sorry my first post is a rant. But I do enjoy reading here. Now I will join in on the conversation instead of watching from afar.
