Youth waterfowl hunt at Ballard WMA cancelled; Boatwright WMA on first come/first serve basis
2/4/09
Frankfort, Kentucky- The youth waterfowl hunts scheduled for February 7 and 8 at Ballard Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Ballard County have been cancelled due to the ice storms.
Ballard WMA is without electrical power and water. Large trees still block roads on the area rendering many of them impassable to vehicles.
At nearby Boatwright WMA for this year only, the youth waterfowl hunts for Feb. 7 and 8 will be on a first come, first serve basis with no check-in required.
"Normally, they have a daily draw for youth waterfowl hunting at Boatwright WMA," said Rocky Pritchert, migratory bird coordinator for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. "But, due to staff efforts to assist local communities with storm damage repairs, the draw has been suspended for this year."
