Someone get that guy a knife. What is he doing, saving it for a full body mount?

He is going to have to hang his plates off the antlers if it stays there any longer.

More like one determine elk hauler, although it's pretty impressive how he got the elk in like that. I would have slung the thing over the hood if I was him.

Not necessarily...if up North, it's pretty darned cold and would take a while to spoil. I hope they shot it, backed up to it, and will have it in a locker quick enough. There are plenty of spots here in the West where you can take your elk, drive up to it, load it and let the processing facility do the rest.

That's what Kalifornistan's Animal Agenda advocates want you to believe....

It's ILLEGAL in NV to NOT display the head.....lol!!! I can't begin to tell you how many thumbs up I got with my 6x6 displayed in the back of my truck driving from Wyo back to Utah last season.

I wonder if this guy is trying a new way to smoke meat. I know if I did that in my 89 YJ that thing would be sitting on the pipe, soaking up everything coming out of the Flowmaster.

That’s got to be one sweat smelling ride home.

i think even NM makes you cover up the kill. probably to prevent the californian heading home from their wintering home in sante fe from getting all worked up with "bambi".

i had a jeep CJ7. my first mulie, i had to strap it to my spare tire with ratchet straps. then i wrapped him in a tarp and drove home to texas.

Boy, I'd think that in the time to load that sucker in there and tie it in, they could have skinned and Indian quartered it, and bagged it.

I see that and assume someone forgot their skinning knife!

I don't disagree with that and I'm not trying to defend those guys...

My only point is that UNLESS there's wanton destruction or waste of meat, we ought not be so darned judgemental.

Sure, I know that in CA hunter's ed. people are instructed to teach how "tasteless and offensive" it is to have an "exposed" carcass in public view. However, not all states and people feel that way about it.

I can't tell you how many deer & elk you'll see in the back of trucks/trailer/etc. in CO, UT, Wyo, WA, NV., OR etc. during hunting season if you spend much time traveling on the roads.

I also can't begin to say how many times in my life I've seen farm kill, carasses from kills in the back of trucks in my life. That's part of country living IMO and 'cause some people find it offensive, I respond by saying don't look! If it's illegal to have an uncovered carass in the back of your truck, it should be illegal to have an offensive PETA bumper sticker (or any other "offensive" sticker or picture) on your vehicle, t-shirt, building, billboard or whatever. It should be illegal to wear a swimsuit in public, etc., etc. Ad Naseum.

rules are rules...i dont want to see a fat shirtless guy wearing a speedo makeing out with his twin either. i simply cant, "look away". i check the regs, and follow suit.

personally, i think the jeep is the best hunting rig around, cept the storage issues. those fellas got around it, and kudos to them. but on a serious note. hunting and hunters are always under the social microscope. i love it with a passion, and would love the old days of strapping a dead critter onto the hood, to transport (showoff) my harvest. but there are folks that would deem it barbaric and find a dead animal offensive. lame as it is, i comply. frankly we dont need the heat. i will happily stay under the radar to preserve our sport. i pick my battles.

Especially on the left & east coasts...not so much in Utah or other Rocky Mt. states.

The social fabric here in Utah and the Rocky Mt. states with exception of certain Denver and ABQ suburbs, still like seeing the success of a good hunt.

When I lived in CA, I had my game properly stored and out of the public eye as per the rules in spite of feeling irked by having to do so.

It just has always struck my funny bone that you have to disply the head in NV and you have to hide it in CA. That to me reflects the regional differences in attitude.

I'd have to agree with that....reminds me, I lived in Germany for a year and went to the public baths that they have in Aachen. Probably around 1000 people...not sure what those europeans are thinking--older aged fat and in speedos. Kinda reminded me of the Thermopolis, Wy baths....'cept, not quite as bad.

Wmidbrook – Where is the CA “law” or CA rule that you can’t have antlers or a head exposed? I have never heard of such a law or rule and I have lived in CA my entire life. I can honestly tell you that I usually go through a CA Border checkpoint at least once a year with something exposed. I have never been told to cover it up.

As long as someone doesn't tie a head on their roll bar or bumper, I got no problem with how they get their critter out of the field.

I imagine the jeep driver had his or her own reasons. That's fine. Living here in the North Bay, I have my fair share of folks who don't actively participate in their own food chain, and are horrified by death.

Maybe thse images would desensitize them?

Actually none of these I would say is "flaunting", and I think the trailer full of bucks was just set up for the photo...

If someone really wants to find a reason to be offended, they will find it.

I've been seeing a good number of Elk in the back of pickups the past few months going down I-25 and Hwy 24

Hunting season (Big Game) still makes the local news in a positive way in Colorado Springs

I can't believe this picture (which has been around forever, by the way) has sparked a bloody controversy.

Isn't it hunting season? Go hunting! Enjoy some fresh air and the companionship of fellow hunters in the appropriate environment. Turn off the computers and step away from the sniping and nitpicking. It's just a funny picture.
