The other one did and I left my gun at the truck how did you know or thought of that. I took a shot at the other one to when it was running came back for me after awhile

Was just thinking there may have been more than one hog. That's usually when most folks I've seen charged get charged. From other pigs that were with the one they shot.

Quick & smiple.

Parked the truck started walking in not to far away at last light spotted 2 both same size and color. Put the cross hair on the one in the front, behind the ear (thought I give it a try) BOOM dropped him the other one takes off run put the cross hair on the other one and took a shot to, went back to the truck grab the rope and stuff, forgets my gun didnt think I really need it. Spotted the one on the ground and was about to walk up and suddenly herd noises turned my head and the other one was standing there looking at me didnt look to happy to, grab a branch and threw it at him and before I knew it he was running at me so I turned around and jumped up the tree after a while of making noise try to scare it off, it turned and ran so I carefully went down and drag the pig back to the truck.

Nice shot placement. Congrats on the pig, well done. If the one that charged you was the same size, should have jumped on him. Don't worry about the charge, just don't let em bite you.

Let's see here bigworm. He has no firearm when he went back and got charged by the 2nd pig. So he jumps on the pig, letting it bite him, and stays on for at least an 8 econd count right? If he has a big knife it is illegal to knife the pig by CA DFG code. But then, as long as he can show blood and bite marks, I guess he is ok by claiming SELF DEFENSE. Oh, the humanity of it! I still vote for the backup sidearm if I'm going for pig without a rifle.

On the other hand, is it legal in CA to neck out a pig with a carotid artery neck hold? You can catch fish in CA with a hand dip net, but I don't know about big game. On the other hand if he just rode the pig, holding it's carotids closed for a while, and then the pig died of natural causes, I guess that could be a good story for the jury to hear.

Pretty funny, Jackrabbit... but if it ain't listed as a "method of take", best not go there.

Jackrabitt, chill out a little. Although not a preferred method of getting away from an upset hog it can help in a dangerous situation, when unarmed, no trees to climb or objects to get behind. Or as in Bigworms case, the Branch breaks and you are eye ball to eye ball. Hogs cant bend back and you can get control of the situation rather fast. I too prefer the Sidearm.
There was a friendly joke floating the forum early last year about a similar subject.


Let that little shine and start posting some stories and pictures. cuase this is starting to become a downer

With extensive knowledge about jumpin on pigs (I was a kid raised on a farm at one point, sure was fun to jump on a pigs or calfs back) I wouldn't try it. I'm not sure about the terrain there in CA but I'll take a guess and say that theres cactus well you'd be suprised of a 100 pound pigs strength and If you jump on it and it dont like you there it's gonna be running and yes pigs donkey kick. So lets asess the situation your on a pigs back having your legs and groin dragged in throns and your stomache being kicked hard every second or so. Lets also say you go for the artery, if your sitting there pinchin a pig it aint gonna do anything but make him madder and make him so faster and harder. I'd say you made the right decision by jumping in the tree, congrats on the kill and have fun with the meat.

It will be a good match but I will have to be on it for a while then even if it gives up I would have to let go and start running.

Running shot cross hair was on the shoulder so I thought I would most likely hit him even if it was a gut shot but its not a for sure or it has some balls.
