As of now, it is not explicitly forbidden in the rules, nor is it mentioned in the hunting FAQ. However, I expect they would have a problem with it if any modifications need to be done to the trees to put the stand up, including screw-in steps, trimming branches, etc... since the place is a "park".

PIGIG has the ranger's ear and he may have an idea of how to proceed (i.e., perhaps the Clinton method). Personally, I'd think it's OK as long as you are discrete and not damaging trees and/or not setting up next to one of the few hiking trails in the park, and I myself have plans to try that method at some point this season.

Thanks Backcountry. Everything is clamp on I have a climbing stick and a hanging strap on stand. I wont screw anything into the tree. Everything I have read says to fallow the fish and game rules and park rules. I havant seen anything about stands. I think if you find a spot with fresh and good sign a stand will pay off. thanks,

I gotta say somethin' here that once again won't be so popular.... You guys were all over me about my opinion on the pig tag increase, which is cool, I understand. Yet I disclose a hard earned honey hole on public land on the www, for all to read, and not even a mention? I don't need a pat on the back, or lots of praise, but the hypocrisy is obvious. It beckons me back to a simple broad question I had about an Elk hunt only to be stone walled by a moderator of all people. I'm not judging you all as one, but I certainly hope notice is taken in this regard. Good luck regardless......

Hey Pigig,

Look at the bottom of the Smilies and you'll see a link that says "Show All". There's a whole pile of smilies available. Lots of classics, and even more that you've probably never even dreamed of. [/b][/quote]

Lake Sonoma is following all DFG rules except the ones that have been stated in the press release by the DOD and the park, I had this conversation with Joel about a month ago, have you down loaded the documents. If not go to http:\\calfly.com\sonoma.zip. If it is not in the press release then follow DFG law and any other California law.

just to put every one at ease i will get a quote from joel (the ranger) on monday and post it here on the fourm and add it to the press release

I think there's at least a 60:40 chance that asking if tree stands can be used will result in someone scratching their head, thinking "Hmm, that didn't come up in the committee meeting, so we're gonna have to say no".

It might be best to just go with what's in the rules as they are, since tree stands are legal in the state, nor are tree stands explicitly forbidden in the Lake Sonoma rules as they stand now (i.e., let sleeping dogs lie). The worst that can happen if you take a tree stand there now, without asking for additional permission, is that you get told to take the tree stand down and they change the rules to explicitly forbid them... you can't get cited for what's not against the rules, and it's not like you're asking to poach or something.

Just make sure you don't damage the trees. They probably also would frown on you leaving the stand up overnight (which I would guess would be the main reason they would ban their use outright).

On the other hand, there's a 40:60 chance PIGIG will sweet talk them into saying go ahead and have fun with tree stands.

Just my two cents...

Anybody get a hog there last weekend? I couldn't make it because I was shooting a monster buck in D9. This weekend I will be bear hunting, but I will definately have to find the time to boar hunt since it's my favorite. Good luck.

I hope not...

No hunting at Lake Sonoma on weekends until December. This month its Tuesdays and Wednesdays only. In November its Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays; however, there are closures on the 2nd (election day) and the 3rd (2 days before the junior lottery deer hunt).

Every day is open for hunting in December except the 24th, 25th , and 31st.

Check the PDF info packet that PIGIG links too as it has the complete calendar of legal hunt dates for piggies .

Is there a reason I couldn't attach a jpeg image? I got a message that said I couldn't attach that kind of file. Can I only attach a image from a web site? By the way, I'm new to this site and it's awesome. Can't wait to go hunting and meet some fellow hog slayers. I'm thinking when the weather cools and we get some rain it will pick up. At my usual places the hogs are high up and hiding.

Welcome to JHO boarhunter67.
<

For pictures, I suggest you upload your picture to the JHO gallery and then hotlink the photo from there so it shows up in the thread... it's a few extra steps, but it's the best way to get your pictures seen by more people. You have a nice picture of your D9 buck to post?

Click on photo/video gallery at the top of the page and walk through the steps... you'll need to set up another free account for your video gallery, but you can use the same login ID and passwrd to keep things simple.

Thanks, I did upload the pictures. I'm not sure how to hyperlink to it. I tried clicking on the IMG button, but that didn't seem to be the right thing to do. What next? I will try one more thing and see if that works. If not, any suggestions would be appreciated. My monster blacktail

very nice buck!

To post pictures inline in the thread, you need the URL of the photo... when you have the photo displayed on your screen as it is hosted in your gallery, right click the photo, select properties at the bottom, then copy the URL address for the photo. Then in the thread where you want to post the photo you click on the IMG button and paste the URL into the pop-up box... it's that simple!

Thanks, I will try that next time. I also tried to add an image next to my profile and got the message that the upload failed. Thanks again for the help.
