Coues, I never hunted peyote.
You could very well be right about the weight. so if he was 80 lbs he might have been some kind of record? I was lying on the ground under a low branch and the javi was bristled up pretty good and only a few yds away. Being the first time I ever saw one It's hard to imagine that the biggest one in the herd wasnt 100lbs. Since we only filmed him and didn't kill him no way to know for sure that's why I used that estimated word in there. i'll go kill him next year now that i know where he lives. He was acting pretty tough for a little guy and I really might have been more concerned for my health had I known he was sporting cutters like those.

p.s. did you use mechs. or broadheads on them?[/b]
ON THIS HUNT I USED MONTEC G5 FIXED HEADS. THEY PERFORMED PERFECT AND FLEW REAL CLOSE TO MY FIELD TIPS. I HOPE YOU DO TRY THESE LITTLE GUYS OUT. THEY ARE A BLAST AND I CANT WAIT TO DO IT AGAIN. ROMAN ARCHER WHERE ARE YOU FROM? YOU SOUND LIKE YOU HAVE BEEN INTO WILD BOARS. THATS WHAT I WANT TO TRY NEXT. WE HAVE A RANCH AROUND HERE THAT HAS RUSSIAN BOAR AND FERAL PIG MIX. THEY DONT LOOK AS FUN AS SOME OF THE WILD BOAR HUNTS I HAVE SEEN. I DONT EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START.

hey mulies4ever,
i am originally from the east coast and now live on the west coast ,so i have only hunted and harvested strickly whitetails and other small game. thats why i joined jho to learn more about the hunting zones in the area from other succesfull west coast hunters and more about the game i will be pursueing, and this site has been outstanding in the quality of the fellow hunters i have talked to so far, and just like you with your javalina photos and story you have sparked my intrest now in hunting them in the future, thanks for the internet! so this will be my first year hunting on the west coast and i am excited, you can hunt wild pigs everyday here and their is no limit and only $16.00 per tag, all you gotta do is just find them now! so i have not stuck an arrow in a wild piggy yet, but when i do you will be the first to know! my goals for the next couple of years out here is to take a mulie, sitka, turkey and most of all a black bear strickly with a bow.
my real hunting adventures in life are just starting begin now on the west coat and i cant wait to see what the future holds for me! talk to you soon.............tra
p.s. i am going to use those montecs they sound great, i was useing naps razzorbacks for a long time, but its time to change. and i like the grim reapers for turkey.

franklin3,thank you so much for the suggestion.
i have seen other post mention this place, its sounds like a great idea and i would be intrested in pig hunting there and meeting other jho members. i rather be out in the feild doing it insted of punching keys on the comp. talking about it, its time to get out there and let some arrows fly!
i am sorry i can not remember if you shot a bow or not, but if you do we should get together and talk turkey, it seems that we both live close to each other, that would be great.i am all geared up and bow is tuned, just got to get out there now and hunt. going back to work this morning after 3 mo.off
<
.. so thats why i am going to work on getting a better sched. because i mostly work weekends and would miss opening days for hunting, oh well. i let you know whats going on , talk to you soon................tra

This gets you legal now where do you go. Here in the South Bay area we have Wild Hog Adventures aka Choppers He posts as Big Tusker here on JHO and conducts semi guided archery hunts on a private 4000 acre ranch about an hour and half south of San Jose. You just ask here on the site and he will answer any questions you might have.
I have hunted his ranch 4 times and always look forward to my next trip.
There's also FHL (Fort Hunter Ligget) South Of King City that is open to hunt with permit only (available online) there is a weekend fee or an annual fee depending on how much you plan to use it.
There are also several other local ranches and or guides that offer pig hunts here in California almost everywhere and you can find lots of them here on JHO. Or you can start a thread and ask for references from other JHO members about who and where they hunt. It's a real kick I don't know anybody here that doesn't really get a thrill from it.

THANKS GUYS. YOUR AWESOME. I AM GOING TO TRY THIS OUT. NOW I JUST NEED A LITTLE TIME OFF WORK AND A LITTLE FREE CASH. I AM GOING TO SEE IF A COUPLE OF MY BUDDIES WANT TO GO WITH ME TO HELP WITH TRAVEL COSTS AND HAVE A LITTLE COMPANY. ITS GREAT TO BE ABLE TO TALK TO GUYS WITH THE SAME INTERESTS. BOWHUNTING IS A BLAST. TO DATE I HAVE TAKEN 5 MULE DEER, ONE ELK, ONE JAVELINA AND NUMEROUS LITTLE CRITTERS WITH ARCHERY TACKLE. MY WANT LIST INCLUDES ANTELOPE, WILD BOAR, AND WHITETAIL. OH YEAH AND AN AFRICAN BOWHUNTING SAFARI. THAT WOULD DO.
FRANKLIN3 I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE PICS OF YOUR LIVE JAVELINAS. LAST YEAR WE FOUND A DEN THAT A VERY CRANKY COUGAR WAS CURRENTLY IN. LUCKILY MY BUDDY HAD THE HIGH GROUND AND HE FLED. BUT ANYHOW WE CLIMBED DOWN IN THE HOLE AND FOUND ALL KINDS OF SKULLS AND BONES. I DIDNT KNOW THAT THEY DID THAT KIND OF THING. WE HAD THE BEST TIME OUT THERE AND THERE WAS ALWAYS COOL THINGS TO FIND. HAVE YOU GUYS EVER HEARD OF A PIKU? THE FIRST TIME I SAW ONE I THOUGHT I WAS HALUCINATING. ITS A JACKRABBIT ON MAJOR STEROIDS. I COULD OF SHOT IT WITH MY BOW BUT I WAS OVERWHELMED JUST SEEING THE DANG THING. I SAW IT TWICE AND MY BUDDIES THOUGHT I WAS LOSING IT. THAT SUCKER WAS ONE BIG RABBIT! IT WASNT UNTILL WE MET A LOCAL DOWN THERE BOWHUNTING AND MY BUDDIES WERE BEATING ME UP ABOUT IT THAT WE FOUND OUT WHAT THEY WERE CALLED. THE ARIZONA DESERT IS A REALLY COOL PLACE.

I saw a couple of those giant rabbits. I didn't know what to think I just stood there and watched it for the longest time. I finally decided that 15lbs or not it was still just a rodent.
I spent an hour looking for the cd with the pics on it and haven't found it yet. It was right on my desk a couple weeks agoand I remember picking it up with every intent of putting it somewhere safe.
I must have succeeded. Im gonna call the guy that filmed them and get another dvd I'll get them posted.

COOL. I WISH I WOULDVE TAKEN A FEW PICTURES OF THE JAVIES THAT WE WERE STALKING. I HAD PLENTY OF OPPORTUNITY. ALL I COULD THINK ABOUT WAS PUTTING AN ARROW THROUGH ONE.
