Now for the preparations. I hope there is a cure for this. I've been interrupting my meetings to look ato the JHO POM thread every other hour.

Question: Anyone know where to get the Hornady LeverEvolution pointed tip ammo for my Win 30-30? The manufacturer claims (effective) range of 250 to 300 yards. Figure this solves the big range limitation issue on lever action carbines.

Speck - I'll be in my 'ol town to partake on some lumpia. Any shop nearby where I can find this? I've already called 3 gun store here from Woodland Hills to Fontana in SoCal. They are even named in Hornady's website but they all seem not to even heard of it.

Beastslayer,

Check out Cabelas and BassPro online. You can order and have ammo in a week, and they carry most of the better stuff.

I would question those claims of making the 30-30 into a 300 yard gun, but I'm no fan of pushing the envelope when it comes to long range shooting anyway. Still, that Lever Evolution ammo ought to realistically add 100 yards or so to your effective range, if the reports I've read are true.

While you're at it.. bring some of that lumpia to Tejon with you.

Thanks BigDog and Speck,

I'll do just that!

This is double jeopardy for the wife but I'll definitely ask her to cook some lumpia -- or something else since lumpia can lose being crispy if not eaten right out of the pan. Speck - Have you acquired a taste for San Miguel Pale yet?

Yeah, I also doubt the 300 yard claim although the catch I see was the 14 to 28 inch drop off. But hey, that's better than telling shooters to aim at the moon to technically claim that the trajectory will make it to 300 yards. Mighty brave of them on the claim -- at least.

ozstriker22,

I am not exactly proud of my wife's adobo and pansit. I'll ask her to do beef caldereta though or kare-kare (not the tripe, I can't take that too). But beware the gout... I'll ask those who want to try to sign a waiver. I would not be responsible for anyone limping in Tejon.

Anyone have a link to a place where I can get a GIGANTIC ice chest to pack a 200lb hog in? I went to Cosco and they didn't have squat, and what they did have wasn't very big at all.
I have managed to save nine 2 liter soda bottles but need to get another couple dozen prior to the trip.

That's odd because the Costco by me has an Igloo (the best) about 160 qt for 70.00 dollars.

It just be my Costco then. I may need to try another town to see if they have them.

Thanks for the info.

I'm gonna toss this out there early because I imagine it will be stressed at orientation. There are tons of hogs on the ranch right now and virtually every group I have seen in the last 2 months has wet sows and piglets too young to survive without momma. PLEASE make sure you're not pulling the trigger on a wet sow. The grass is getting tall and the youngsters can be hard to see, so please take a few extra seconds before you drop the hammer to make sure.

Yeah, two years ago there was a hunter that shot a wet sow... sad to see those little striped footballs running around without mama, completely unafraid of people.

But hey... isnt' that were Lil Smokeys come from??? Mmmmmmm... Lil Smokeys..... delicious

Good point, Scott. Forgot to include that...

Tejon frowns on killing wet sows. I know, sometimes it happens, I've slung a round at one myself without seeing the telltale teats or the furry bundles on the ground (they were in a "nest"). I (and they) got lucky and I missed, but it was only luck.

The grass will be high again this year, so it's gonna be hard to see the bellies of the hogs. Please take your time when you can, and be careful what you're shooting at.

IF YOU DO KILL A WET SOW... LEAVE THE BABIES WHERE THEY ARE. IT IS ILLEGAL TO TAKE THE BABIES ALIVE WITHOUT A PERMIT. Get out of there as soon as you get your hog dressed, and leave the babies be. Hogs are social, and if given the chance another sow will "adopt" the piglets. Of course, odds are that the yotes will get there first, but that's nature.... red in tooth and claw.

My buddy ran into these today while ground squirrel hunting. There are tons of hogs up there this year.

I have at least a box of 20 that I will sell for face value. I can bring to Tejon or you can pick it up in the east bay if you can't find it elsewhere. Let me know - shoot me an email.

Dangit, Eric!

I have too much work to get done between now and then, and I don't have time for daydreams!

How am I gonna make it to May 12?

By the way, guys, don't forget to check out the chatter in the Events forum!

Current discussion is about a possible big pig jackpot. Also have a sign-up list for breakfast at Flying J on May 12 before check-in. Head on over and check it out. Let's move the event chatter over there, and use this thread for news, sign-up info, and other such info.
