A buddy of mine has been chomping at the bit to go hog huntin. I promised him I would take him to a ranch and get him dialed in on a hog or two. Yesterday, he flew to Hawaii to takecare of some work related business. His work partner set him up with a local houndsman who runs hogs on the Island twice a week. After a 3 mile hike into "Gods Country", He took him down!!!They caught a 250lb with 2 inches cutters (in the picture) and on the way back to the truck, they caught a 125lb sow! Strong work and now his cherry is popped!!! Hawaiian Hog.jpg

Logged in to see what a Hula Hog looks like that has not yet been roasted over with an apple in it's snout.

That is awesome.

Congratulations!

Hello Hoghunter,

I used to have a buddy who took me bow hunting at Kualoa Ranch on Oahu, but I lost track of the druggie. That's the place where they make the movies. I can watch my favorite hunting grounds on the new Hawaiian Five O program.

If you have a smart phone you can listen to Hawaiian 105 in Honolulu with the TineIn Radio Application. What Island are you hunting on?

Yes, congratulations to your buddy. I know how much hard work it is just to walk through that stuff, and then there is the straight up and straight down terrain with goats. A couple of years ago a popular sports writer fell to his death while hanging over a Cliff trying to get a picture of a goat for his newpaper. If I remember correct he was in Kalkua Keaau Area G a public hunting area? This June after school let out, the wife and I were in Oahu for a week, and there was a report on the radio about another hiker who fell to his death near Pali.

These internet hunting forums can really link us together with the Hawaiian hunters, but not as well as my little wife does. The Hawaiians tell her everything. She says that it's like being in the Philippines. Have you hunted any of the public land on Oahu? I posted a few of my maps in the Hawaiian Section. It's not all that bad bow hunting on public land if you are strong enough to bust brush. Pick a cool day during January.

There is absolutely no public hunting at Kualoa Ranch, but during 2008 they remembered the names I mentions well enough for us to be invited to their Luau. It was private and for the first birthday of one of the owner's children. It was a really great party, but I forgot to mention hunting. Kicking myself now that the new Hawaiian Five O program is on television.

Spoke to my buddy last night. He took off from the beach house with his bow in his hand. Found a pretty active game trail and set up an ambush. He waited it out and a large boar was makin his way to him. He pulled back on the string and the 40 yard shot was a tad to high and launched it slightly over his back. He said the stuff is SUPER thick and knarly to boot. I'll see the video when he flys in later today.

Yes, at my age I need to find an active game trail. Try to post the video here.

Not much chance of me getting away from my wife since I kissed those two Japanese girls right in front of her. We were all drinking and I was just horsing around, but you know how wives get when they are pissed.

Keep checking the Hawaiian Hunting Section for my RECON HUNT Trips. The public hunting areas on Oahu are a lot better than than most visitors expect them to be.

I'm no local on Hawaii, So you're the resident expert. I only know what my buddy said and what the guide said (Since I was on the phone with him). Looking at the picture, it's a "Large" pig. I've been hunting these things since I was 12 and he's a "big boy".
