Well, got a text from a friend saying the CA draw results are online.
Checked mine and found I drew the Owens Valley Multiple Zone Tule Elk Archery Bull tag. 1 of 5. Took max points.
Last year burned my max points on deer and took a great buck on the Doyle Hunt.
Any help I can get on the owens valley hunt would be appreciated.

My doyle buck

Here is a pic of the buck I took in Doyle last year. Getting drawn for premium tags two years in a row feels like cheating. But I guess given I put in for over 25 draws each year in different states, it was a matter of odds.

I applied for this hunt also and got drawn as 5th alternate. Getting a tag as 5th alt may prove to be tougher than the original draw odds. Ohwell, I figure close, but no cigar. I wish you luck on your hunt. It should be great. Thats an awesome buck you killed last year!

Well my dad got drawn for the Lone Pine Archery Bull hunt, I told him to go buy a lottery ticket. He has been looking into some info. We sure could use all the advise we can get since its a once in a lifetime tag. Maby we will see you up there!

I have got a family member who lives just 30 minutes north of Bishop. I also am on the Northern California (Redding) RMEF Chapter Comittee. I talked to the So Cal Regional Director yesterday and got some good info. Would be happy to share. When is the Lone Pine hunt?

For those of you that have the open zone tag I saw some huge bulls in the Bishop and Independence heards. I spoke to a Dept of Water and power guy and he did a fly over the Owens River 2 weeks ago and showed me some of the bulls he got on his camera right by the river and he had 4 or five bulls that were 7x7 to 8x8s huge is all I can say. Good luck, post up, and celebrate. Kurt

Chap dog,
Given I am so far away and only have one opportunity to scout, I decided to hire a guide. I am typically a DIY kind of guy, but since i dont expect to ever draw this tag again, wanted to stack the odds in my favor. Hired Jerry Maytum. Everyone that I talked to said he knows the animals better than the biologist. He has been out scouting and gotten some good pictures of bulls stalking in on a group of 25 bulls the other day to get pics. I cant wait until opening day!

Jerry definelty knows that area you are in good hands. Like I mentioned there are lots of bulls for all the hunts next to the river. The big boys are all grouped up right now and it is fun to watch. Use that vegitation next to the river and put a sneak on one of those giants. Like I said seen several nice 7x7's and an occaional 8x8 just lounging around and snacking on the lush vegitation. The river is flowing real nice this year and keeping that riparian river vegitation green and the area cool. Good Luck and post up the giant you are going to take, then the money shots after. Kurt

Well, not the biggest in the valley, but he is mine. A tule with a bow is a trophy no matter what the size. elk killing 060 - Copy.JPG
