Hello LS pig hunters!

Here is the current pig hunt totals 5 boars, 3 sows taken and 449 hunters registered. One hunter reported seeing over 9 pigs on the Warm Springs side of the lake but couldn’t get a shot. Yesterday, a hunter reported seeing lots of pigs early morning by Rustlers but again, couldn’t get a shot.

Any Q's feel free to email or call: Rachel.E.Mack@usace.army.mil (707) 431-4534

As always, good luck this season! ~Rachel

VC Girl, I have home through what I was given and cannot find how to report a take with you all. Is it purely off of our online tag reporting with the DFG? Are we supposed to turn in part of the tag on our way out? I have yet to get one there, just want to know what to do if I am successful. Thanks

Bsanders8181 ~

Lake Sonoma has a check-in and check-out process that takes place at the Visitor Center each time a hunter comes out to our park to hunt pigs. You will put your hunter number (the number on the purple tag) plus date-in and date-out. The top half of the sheet will be dropped in the slot built into the wall at the Visitor Center. Take the bottom sheet with you, if you get a pig let us know if not, then you do not need to check-out.

I tried to attach a copy of the daily check-in sheet so you can see what I’m describing but I’m not able to load the document. If you would like to send me an email I can then send you the document.

Please note, whatever is required by DFG for rules and regulations for pig hunting should still be followed. Hunters are not only subject to all park rules and regulations but all county, state and local laws. I work for the US Army Corps of Engineers and ONLY post info about Lake Sonoma’s archery pig hunt.

I hope this helps, if not feel free to email or call!

FYI

Just found out I will be off duty on Thursday December 27. With that said, the Visitor Center will be closed Monday December 24 until Friday December 28. I will be back on duty Friday December 28, 8am to 3pm for email, fax or in person pig hunt registration. If you’re already registered with the Visitor Center then you are good to go and can hunt this holiday season.

As always, any Q’s just ask!

Be safe,
~Rachel Mack

I'm lookin to take my first hog sometime in the beginnin of February and I was considering lake sonoma but after seein the pig take chances don't seem too good. I'm curious does anyone know if ppl just aren't venturing out far from the trail or are pigs just very slim? First time on the website!
Thanks-Jan

Cassy79, Lake Sonoma is a state public park so its no cake walk and it can be very physical too, but also very rewarding for the bowhunters who have scored a public land pig with a bow. I have blown a shot on a monster hog there in the past that was with a whole group of rhino size hogs, past a shot up on a dinner a couple years ago myself. It's almost a 3 hr drive each way for me but still worth the while. Plenty of hunters have scored hogs there in the past, the reported average take for hogs each year is around 40 pigs over a period of 4 months that's not bad stats for public land. Some takes are by boat and some on land, some by hard work and sometimes one might just pop out in front of u. Bottom line for me is its a great scenic public place to hunt hogs, just got to deal with hikers, jogers and dog walkers and mountain bikers and occasional other hunters. Plenty of fresh sign everywhere at l.s. they are there, is the best game of playing hide and seek bowhunting for a game animal u will ever have, good luck and happy hunting!.......tra uploadfromtaptalk1358124716233.jpg

Waterfern,
I haven't had the chance to talk with a lot of hunters this season about their kills. With the Warm Springs side of the lake open back up now, the few hunters I have talked to are super hush about their spots. Pigs are all over our park, I always try to make it clear that I’m not a hunter at all. I have worked here for almost 9 years and with that said, if there were 1000 confirmed pig kills that wouldn't even put a dent in the number of pigs we have here at Lake Sonoma. Sorry I can't give you specifics but I can tell you I know of confirmed pig kills on both the Dry Creek and Warm Springs side of the lake this season.

I know what you’re thinking, go ahead you can say it, thanks for nothing VC Girl!! HaHa!!

Good luck this season!)
