Hi all, I'm really interested in this caliber right now. Has anybody used it to hunt hogs? Thoughts/opinions?

that caliber is more than enough gun for a hog and you will see upon shooting one!!! the hyperbolic shock is incredible and a good hit from that bullet jerks game to the ground:chainsaw:. A true screamer!!!Downside is the price of ammo for it and the difficulty of finding it local.

It's a good cartridge to use and plenty of power for even large hogs. I would recommend stoutly constructed bullets like the Barnes for big pigs. Most of the loadings are for deer and may be a bit light in the jacket for thick skinned animals.

i have one. i quit reloading for the thing. my rifle likes factory ammo better anyways. groups better, i get faster velocities than any recipe i cook up.

i shoot the 120 grain nosler partition bullet. heaviest you can get, i think. ed weatherby knock down huge elk with the same rifle. it would zap a pig nicely. i wonder about the availability of factory all-copper bullets, tho. havent searched to much, as my rifle is still in texas.

i have killed many many mule deer with it. 100% instant knock down.

Has anybody tried the Cor-Bon ammo for it? It's even more expensive than the weatherby ammo but they load a 115 grain TSX which, needless to say, would be handy for any central Cal hog hunting I might do. I don't plan to be in the condor zone all that often so it's not a huge concern. I know Chuck Hawks thinks highly of the manufacturer, but has anybody here shelled out the cash and tried them?
Thanks, Dave

My best friend has one (.257 wby) and the best shooting handload is that TSX. It gives him 1/4" groups and it is screaming fast.

257 weatherby magnum is all i shoot! I have shot Elk,deer, hogs, coyote's etc. Not one has gone farther than 25 yds. 90% of the animals drop on the spot!
Good luck with your new gun, do yourself a favor and buy a weatherby brand rifle...:patiotic-wavin-flag

i took mine elk hunting in CO. the guide was a bit miffed at my tiny 120gr bullet. i was confident as hell...i had practiced with very very far jackrabbit shooting all summer and could zap a humoungous elk easy. never got to an elk to prove it to the guide.

my buddies call it "deathray" because of it's coyote killing prowess.

hard to fault my M70 30.06, for being "vanilla". i need less rifles.

Wicked little round for hogs fosho! My gun LOVES 120gr noslers....but hogs hate them. Laser flat, mild kick with a 10lb gun and hits like Thors Hammer. WR
