270 for hogs?

Just wondering how a 270WIN does on hogs does it have enough juice?

Any suggestions on grain weight, I was planning on using 130 grainers for just about everything, let me know what you recommend, partitions, accubond, solid copper etc.

I have shot lots of hogs with a 270 rifle using 130 grain winchester shells. I also purhcased my son a 270 rifle but in the 270 Short action mag cal. He uses 130 grain bullets. THey work well on hogs and deer. both in state and out of state.

The .270 does just fine on hogs. I use a different bullet for hogs than I do on deer. I've been using Cor-Lokts with good success. Remember shot placement is the key.

Just for further edification, I shoot the Winchester 270 130 gr. powder point shells while my son uses the Winchester 270 wsm 130 grn ballistic silver tip shells.

no problems with either. his rifle kicks more than mine does though.

.270 has MORE than enough "juice" depending upon...well, everything that an effective round depends on.



Bullet weight, powder, charge, seating depth, barrel length...etc. ad infinitum. I prefer a fast flat bullet (130 gr.) that will have enough velocity and is the proper shape to bust through that pig "armor"...and then expand enough to whack 'em like a 4 lb. Louisville slugger swung by Babe Ruth.

A 270 is a good choice. I have shot them with a 25/06 and 100 grain partitions, a 270 with 130 winchester whatevers, and a 308 with 150 Hornaday sp. A friend of mine always uses a 3030. They are not a mistical creatures that requires special gear. I have found that a bullet in their boiler room puts the fire out just like all other creatures. They are fun to hunt but more malarkey has been written about pig charges than one can imagine. Grab the 270 and get a hog!
