CaHunter, I see your in Gilroy.  Where were you looking at getting the Browning?  When I was looking for the Win M70 Reeds in San Jose had the browning comp stalker in 270WSM for $550. Hopefuly you'll see this in time to help you compare prices.

675 Ughhh.  Reeds had them in stock as of a few weeks ago and the guy handed me one and said $550 so I'd give them a call.  I priced them over at gunsamerica and they were anywhere from $550-700 there.

I just got back from my local gun shop.  He just happened to have a stainless synthetic modael 70 in 270 wsm.  I had to buy it.  Now is all I need is a leupold 3-10 with the standard rings and long range base.  This rifle is soooo nice, I just had to have it.  I'll let you guys know how it shoots around the 10th.

I'm sure you'll like it.  Are you going to shoot factory loads?

I refuse to shoot factory loads through any of my rifles (except 22 LR).  Why pay triple the amount for ammo when you can reaload better ammo yourself for a third the price.  Midway has the brass, and redding dies, that's all I need.  I like the sierra game king for deer.  These bullets are accurate in all my rifles, instantly kill thin skinned game, and are dirt cheap at $14 per 100.  I hope it likes the 130 SGK.  We'll see.  I did look at the the factory ammo, it's very short and very fat, looks good.

Deer,

If you watch on Ebay or Gunbroker you can pick up the brass for $27/100.  I picked up the RCBS Neck die/seater from Midway.  The same shellholder that fits 338Win will work (#5?) but RCBS makes a shellholder #43 for the WSM cases.  If you use a Lee Handprimer, forget it. The case is too fat to fit in the slot. I picked up a RCBS handprimer that uses the reg shellholder.  Powder funnel is another problem, at least for all my funnels, again the case is to fat and neck to short for the funnel to fit down over the shoulder.

I used the Seirra 130FB bullet with lite charge loads to fireform the cases to my chamber for the first firing and had a 25 shot goup inside 2". Some were shot on a cold barel, others hot; some on a just cleaned barrel, some dirty.  I'm a bit afraid to use the Seirra in mine as the higher velocity could blow that bullet to bits at close range and I never know when I'll get a shot at a big Boar at spitting distance so I went withthe Scirocco since it holds together pretty well.  With the Scirocco seated .02 off the lands, Fed 210 primer, and 64gr of H4350 "MY" rifle gets .5 to 1" 3 shot groups all day.  once "MY" rifle gets up to 65+grains the bolt gets stiff and then the extractor marks and flatten primers start showing up. Still haven't ran it across a chronograph, that'll happen next weekend.

I fitted my rifle with a McMillan stock and glass bedded it with Leupold Dual dovetail mounts.  After shooting 80+ rounds in the last 2 days my shoulder can feel it.  So much for that light recoil the mags all talk about.

Good Luck and let me know how yours works out.

Thanks Cahoghuntr, good tips.  I can give you one also.  I have a 338 RUM with the fat 404 jeffrey case.  My Lee hand priming tool wouldn't accept the shells either.  I took the dremel tool to it and now it accepts them perfectly.  Did Mcmillan do the bedding?  Which stock did you buy?

I thought about making the Lee primer work but just went with the RCBS since my dremel seems to be on permanent loan.  I got the McMillan WN-3 stock, short action M70 Hunting stock.  The have them on their "web Special" for $300 delivered, at mcmfmily.com.

I did the bedding myself.  I found a new way to do it that is a lot easier and a lot less messy than my old way.

Deerhunter, if you're looking to buy one of those titanium Remingtons, you might want to think twice.  I read a review about a year ago that stated that the gun wasn't as accurate as it should be for the price.  That chrome color doesn't occur naturally in the woods, either.  I think that a better choice would be the Colt Light Rifle.  I own one myself, and can attest to it's accuracy (half inch groups at 150).  The .270 weighs six lbs. right out of the box.  It was made through licensing from ULA (same gun - different stock material), and is only about $500.  Check gunsamerica.com - you can still get new ones.  Don't tell too many people, though.  This gun will be a collector's item.

Metal,

I checked out gunsamerica on the Colt and had some questions for ya since you own one.  I saw one was advertised as "having all the bad stuff fixed", i.e. trigger, safety. Are the triggers/safety as bad as that makes them sound?  Since it is a limited producton rifle and they are still trying to sell the new ones, what would reasons could you see that would cause a new owner to be trying to sell theirs as used already?  Again being limited production, who handles the servicing if something breaks or there is a problem now that they are done building them, Colt or ULA?

I just looked at a mod 70 classic featherweight in the 270wsm.  Its a nice rifle felt good  when i put it to my shoulder.  they also had a browning A bolt stalker, it was really light.  Now I don't need a new rifle but it sure would be nice to have before deer season starts.
