It started when I came home from hunting D7 for 4 days over the Labor day weekend.....
I walked in the house about 4 pm and hit the button on my message machine and got the normal messages after being gone a few days until the last one. It was my Bro-in-law Frank "Pigs are on the ranch, got mine yesterday, hurry up if you want one"
I looked at my wife and she asked what I was waiting for, man I love her
I called my new hunting partner (also my Bro-in-law) Clayton and told him about Franks message. He says, "yeah I got it and I'm leaving in 10 mins."
Well long story short I put the recurve up and grabbed my .06 and hit the door running to the sound of my my wife yelling "MEAT PIG THIS TIME!!!!!"
I waved and burned rubber up the hill. I got onto the ranch just about 5 and met Frank and Clay. Soon after talking about Franks hog from the day before we headed for the pond. As soon as we started to look around it was abvious that the hogs were not just running though but staying for dinner.
Frank hung back as I walked upstream with Clay explaining about hogs and how to handle hunting them. We were seeing tons of sign but no fur until we stopped to talk for a moment when we heard a OOOOF and looked into the creek to see about 25 hogs bedded in the reeds.
I said "hold on" and cracked off 4 rounds dropping 2 hogs almost in their shadows, that .06 works wonders on pork
Clayton picks a hog and fires as the pigs scramble for lead free air.
We find my hogs quickly (one where it stood and one 30 yard up hill) and THINK he must have missed, but I could tell by the look on his face he was HOOKED
After getting the truck we go to pull my hogs back when Clayton notices 2 drops of blood about 3 feet above my 2nd hog. We start to blood trail it and within a few mins we hear a hog in a deep hole. I run up and find a hog wounded but still VERY alive. I yelled "Clay, get up here and get your PIG!"
Clayton runs up and puts a killing shot into the lungs of the Sow and within a moment he has Bagged his first big game animal.
I was as proud as a new Dad.
Soon Frank and Claytons son arived to enjoy a succesfull hunt, it was now 6:15 and time to start the hard work.
He is hooked on hogs FOR LIFE
