Because there are not enough elk in the wild for all of us to catch and raise them to slaughter. Elk cause a tremendous amount of property damage too.

Looks like the same momma and piggies I saw in area C3 a few weeks ago but passed up. There were no other mature pigs with them nor did I see any others during the rest of my hunt on base. That whole grass area below the oaks amongst the scrub brush looked like a roto tiller had been through there. Lots of fresh sign and lots of food for them. Gonna head back up in a few weeks.

My hat is off to you for not shooting "Momma". If you come by the gun club I'll buy you a beer......

Just didn't make sense...To have a sustainable resource WE as hunters must manage it. Killing the sow could have resulted in the early death of her litter and I'm not starving for game meat. I'd like to have those little piggies breeding within a year. By the way, I believe it was you that I met a year ago Valentines weekend at the club game locker. I just brought in a sow that I took in area 3 and you had just finished butchering a monster boar that you were planning to mount. I was up that weekend hunting with some buddies from the Pendleton Sportsman's Club. I just love Vandenberg...too bad the guest hunter program was killed. Seems like there's always some knucklehead that spoils a good thing for all.:(

I work out there too, so I'm sure I met you. That hog is on my hunting partner's wall and he's everything we thought he'd be! Hog numbers are down somewhat this year, and it's good to see some people thinking about OTHER hunters instead of "getting their own" and not caring about next year. Good on you.

That said, we are in an enviable position in that we get to go out 3 or 4 times a week and usually sight hogs. We can be somewhat picky as a result. Being picky allows us to do things like videotape sows with piglets, and find big boars worth a bullet later.

We took a friend out last week and worked three nice boars within 1/3 mile of each other. They are there, but it often pays to be patient.
