I think that comes from the original military loading for the 7x57, it was 175 grains, but this is no longer the case. With the construction of todays bullets the 140-150 grain are excellent medicine for anything up to and including Elk. There is certainly nothing wrong with the heavier bullets, but dead is dead, why beat yourself up with recoil? I have seen suprising accuracy from your regular green box remington and white box winchester ammo. One thing to remember about belted cases is that those stupid belts can have a deterimental affect on accuracy. If the cartridge is headspacing on the belt instead of the shoulder, you won't have the consistency you need.

I am currently in the process of determining which ammo to use on the May Tejon hunt, and will be dialing in my rifle. To help with this, can someone tell me the average range you are taking on most of the tejon hogs?
Thanks!

Real close feet to 250 yd. or more cross canyon shots.

That's one of the fun things about tejon - lots of different opportunities can present themselves, you just need to be ready.

Average range? Oh, about 750 yards on a good day. You aim at the lowest cloud, count to three, and then look for the dust cloud. Adjust accordingly, and fire up the BBQ grill!

You got that right....I need to find a bow with a 200+ pound DW and a sight with a 400 yard pin!
