I am just putting this out to see if anyone has had experience with 30-30 Winchester 150gr Super-X Power Core 95/5 Lead Free Ammo or anyother lead free for that matter. I have a favorite rifle that shoots straight and I am comfortable with. However, I have not needed to use a lead free ammo ever and this next spring will be the first time. I was wondering if any of you guys know of any reasons why I should avoid this ammo and if there is any other options in 30-30 as for lead free?

Federal makes a load in the 30-30 with the Barnes.

I know LtDann had some bad luck using the 95-5 in an -06 last year on a couple of hogs. He felt the bullet didn't perform after impact and he lost the animals.

Thats no good... Those where one of the only ones I found. Ill take that recomendation and look at federal's barnes load. I would like to find 2-3 and go with the one that my gun likes best.

the 95/5 was mariginally accurate at 100 yds..strike 1. What killed it for me was I shot a hog at 40 yds with the Tikka 30-06 and it didn't faze the hog . I found bone chips on the ground for crying out loud.....and I still lost it. Strike 2-Blood petered out after 100-125yds in thick brush.I don't give ammo a third chance.

Never had a shot at flesh with it. However, I bought these for my little brothers rossi. This gun isnt very accurate to began with. With these bullets though he was able to constantly hit a 6 inch gong open sight at 300 yards off hand. On the bench it was 1 inch groups at 100 yrds. He is a better shot then ill ever be. Hitting the hog shouldn't be the issue. Performance once it penetrates is another question.

I use the barnes flat nose bullets in my '94 (load my own). I've shot it once at a hog, and it did the job. wouldn't trust it past 100 yards though.
