16 hours roundtrip drive for a 30 minute hunt. Rollled in at 2am Saturday morning, a few hours sleep, walked up to my favorite watching tree. Was just wiping my a$$ after doing my buisness and noticed a herd walking up the other side of the canyon. One shot, finish wiping, go get him. Too long a drive for that... Oh well, gave more time for a visit with my daughter in Phoenix.

Maybe they were attracted to the smell, they thought a new javelina had moved into their area.

Most of my hunts last 30 minutes! 30 minutes into the forth day of my third trip.

Congrats

Nice going Dawg, I was told by old timers that a little stink bait properly applied goes a long way. Javelinas are rambunctious little buggers. I've been on several fire assignments around AZ and other places in the SW that holds'em and I am always prepared to clear the way as they clear away from a fire front. Never ate one; how do they compare to pig?

You definitly do not want to touch the meat and outside skin without washing your hands. One knife kand, one pull hand. Not just the scent gland, scent is all over. It also needs some doctoring up. Maybe marinate your self a bit. But makes decent enough eating. You are not eating a half pound at a sitting, but you are supposed to cut back a bit on meat anyway. :)

And pants up or not, you learn to look carefully at where you sit in that country! Everything has spines. No it doesn't affect shooting. :)
