shot this hog and some others just before dark about 6:20 ,went back the next morning around 11:am and found her still alive! she jumped up and ran at me so I shot her in the left eye,she rolled and came at me again.so I shot her in the ear she came no more!!!
I had hit her right behind the shoulder the first time .I dressed her to see why the bullet didn't do the job.it had taken out one whole lung and part of the other one.but just didn't want to die!

That is one huge hog!!! They are tough.....they still run about 100 yds. even when whacked in the shoulder with 12 ga. slugs. Big, black, beautiful, beast. Makes me want to grab my rifle & run over to Texas right now. What part of Texas is that??

You shot a pig in the eye with a rifle and it kept coming at you? I find it ver hard to believe that 1. You could hit a pig in the eye with a rifle, their eyes are tiny 2. A bullet in the brain wouldn't kill the pig. BTW how would you be able to hit a pig in the ear if it was running AT you? It would have to be broadside to hit it in the head through the ear, otherwise you would just put a little hole in its ear. Maybe I'm wrong, if so, my bad. Either way, it sounds like you need a bigger gun. 30.06 does a number on them.

I may sound skeptical, but if you took out one whole lung, and part of the other, physiologically speaking, that animal would have been DEAD!!! You may have made a slight error in your guestimate. Actually in nearly all species of big game, if you place a good shot and take out one lung, death will be imminent, lest one exception, archers. An arrow may actually stick in the entry hole, preventing bleeding out, and assisting in the lung preventing complete collapse, thus actually aiding an animal after the initial threat, but a bullet will leave an open hole for both blood and air to escape or enter. Natural breathing is created via a "vacuum effect" in which as the diaphragm is pulled down, air must enter the lungs. When you create a new easier area for air to enter, such as a bullet wound, the air will continue to move in and out, completely collapsing the lung and pressurizing the other lung and heart, that along with the massive blood loss of a severe lung injury should have rendered even this large pig dead within 1 hour. Unless you were using a .17HMR or something???

ok for you skeptics the shot was straight on and running so my shot was slightly off. it was actually in the bone just below the eye about an inch to be exact! the next shot was also straight on the shot was actually slightly in front of the ear at the base ! I tend to pull to one side on rushed shots!
as far as being lung shot I did a close exam to see why she didn't die right away because I knew the shot was in the lung area! nearly all of the left lung was gone and part the very bottom lobe of the right one!
now I'm not a vet but ,I can tell you this nothing and I mean nothing is absolute except death and taxes!!!!!
if I was bragging about shot placement I would have dropped her in her tracks with one shot right to the brain! I'm not bragging just stating the facts and really don't care who believes it!

Guess,
And what caliber were you shooting?? We are not skeptics, only people who didn't get an accurate story. As far as the lung thing goes, I work Cardiothoracic surgery, and have also been trauma trained, unless an act of God, or a very small caliber, if that hog lost all of one and part of the other lung, death would be imminent within 1 hr.
