Now that I need to use non-lead is it still feasible to use a 45/70?
Or should I thro in the towel and get a bolt 30-06. I dont care for them new fangled bolt rifles...

Nope, your 45/70 is still usable. 410ismyfriend has some Barnes bullets loaded up fpr his Sharps replica amd has harvested several hogs with it.

It's still viable. Corbon loads Barnes for it. I believe Midaway carries them. Custom Cartridge up in Goleta also loads it with Barnes if your looking for factory shells.

Ole Boy Outdoors in Bakersfield had some of the Cor-Bon 45-70 loads.

The 300 gr. TSX hollow point works wonders on hogs: changes their attitude like right now. (look at my avatar)
