Now lets hear the WHOLE story. Cuz if you were only 5 yards away your aim seems to be off a little. I'm thinking your next post might have some details about shooting it off your buddy while he fought the pig or something like that.

KWB, if I ever pull you over I'm gonna have to take you to the big house so the rest of us can get a chance at takin' a trophy like that. Congrats on a huge hog!

Congratulations. Oh man!!! What a huge hog. It is so pretty, nasty, mean looking big black boar with wild hair streaking all along it's muscled body. I love that picture. Thanks for sharing. We are still waiting for the details. Especially the killing shot. God Bless.

Apologies about not giving any details, had to go and watch USC spank Michigan @ the rose bowl
This is Vance's hog he shot this Saturday.
This is what happened, I spot this herd and we move over to them and as we get close we hear some other hogs fighting to our left and this big boy is putting it to this other boar we call #2 [ we have a standing code "he who spots it, gets it"] so because I spotted both herds, I got to pick, I said, I'll take that bad boy, Vance went after the other herd which had some nice boars also but not as big as this guy.
I moved with the wind in my face and get to 50 yards and I cant get any closer, so I just wait for my chance, as the herd is milling around, I see they are moving to the top of a little ridge and if they go over, I'll move fast and get my shot on the other side.
As I come over the top, I'll have a 10-20 yard shot, as I do, there is Vance standing where all the hogs should be standing, as I walk over to him his eye's are wide open like he just had a visitation from GOD.

I said, he said, my hogs took off and as I followed them over this way, this herd came over the top right to me, I was standing right here and there was a sow with piglets right there at my feet, then the big boar came over to her, right their pointing to a mere 15 feet, I was thinking she is going to kill me if she knows I'm right here.
Then another sow came right to me and she looked right at me, but I could not shoot, there where pigs all around me, the boar could tell something wasn't right, he was standing right there broad side, as he whirled to leave, I snap shot, he only went 40 yards and piled up

Wow..that's a great story. I'd better start packing an extra pair of shorts in my bag in case something like that ever happens to me..haha. Congrats to Vance!

Cahntr, that is a good question, the answer is no, though, I don't know why not, but we didn't, he broke his right tusk off, it's only about 1 inch and fatter than your thumb, this guy was old, no hair around his eye's, all scared up, he was rank, look at post # 2 his feet whir huge, just a sick looking, nasty boar
If you look in the pic's you will see we are loosing light fast, this is the last 20min. of light, I wish we took more pic's, but we had a long way to go in the dark, about 2 1/2 miles.
You guys already know this, but the big boars come out at the last hour and then you still have to get close, so light is usually a problem, I don't care how far I am away from my truck, the last hour is the golden hour and I put forth every effort to score, after it's black out, I can hike back to my truck.
This is Vance's biggest main land hog so far, for some reason he gets raddled with big boars, [ it might be there tusk and the size, knowing they could do some serous damage to you ] but he did it this time and @ 5 yds, I should of took a pic of his face when I first walked up to him.
The rush of adrenalin can be overwhelming for some, I had a friend who would almost blackout some times, he didn't know what happened some times, it was like an overload, then he would come around after awhile.
So I'm glad you all enjoyed, that's what posting is about, it gets me pumped when I see others success in the field, so string your bow, or whatever weapon of your choice and go get-tum
