Not at all, with the right bullets and a little sighting in, so you know the gun, it will take bucks easily...

I used to hunt with my 30-06 with 180gr. Its only about 100fps faster than a 180gr 30-06 and for sure its a smaller diameter

Nowadays the Copper Bullets that are readily available is our limitation. I was in Bass Pro yesterday, and they were out of the Federal 30-06 Copper that my rifle is Zero'd in to.

With the 7mm Mag I like the 110 grain in the Federal Barnes Triple-Shock Copper. It has been available on the shelf in stores.

Why bog it down with a heavy bullet?

+1 not sure why a heavier bullet in any caliber would be necessary for our little California greyhound deer. My dad used to shoot a 7mm mag, make sure to use the right ammo. He use to destroy deer with that gun. lost allot of meat with it. They would be cooked before they hit the ground.

Got to ask what are the pros and cons of a lighter projectile i am using 175 now so lets say i go to a 150-110 should i change i would think the lighter the flatter and less knock down, but how much knock down do i need ? only shooting deer for now, hell i use a 150 in my 300 Savage and it dose the trick fine.

Hello Slanttop

Based on my Aerospace background, the formula for kinetic energy is (1/2 of the mass x the square of the velocity); meaning that a lighter bullet at a higher speed will carry more kinetic energy than a heavier bullet at lower speeds.

Whenever I see the 7mm Mag ammo on the shelf, in Federal 110 grain copper I think about kinetic energy.

Thanks Map, i can use led in my zone so finding light led should be no problem. Wounder what i should try, 140-110. dose it kick less with the lighter grain ? lol.

Using some basic kinematics equations, we obtain an equation for the acceleration of an object which changes speed. The 7mm Mag 110 grain accelerates from Zero to 4,000 fps in an instant. Awesome!

The kick involves Newton's 3 Laws of Physics. Acceleration, Force, and Mass. That would require Vector Math, because they are expressed as Vectors.

I think? It's been a while.
