I do a lot of video work, but since I got this DSLR, I haven't used it as much. Its a very satisfying hobby... just wish lenses were cheaper :)

great shots txbow! really like the first pic. What part of Texas are you from? I'm in the Houston area.

The first shots look like central Tex.. the last one is obvious S. Tex..

Keep em coming.. what DSLR do you shoot? agree with you about those lens prices

Thanks! I am using a 10D with a Canon 75-300 IS USM lens. A couple of those were taken with a borrowed Canon 100-400mm IS. I really want a 300mm F4 IS, so that is what I am saving for right now.

You are dead on as far as location. Top three were taken about 1 hr north of Mason, TX on my new lease. The rest were taken around Crystal City, TX.

I live up in DFW, not much for wildlife around here close!

I should get some really nice pictures this year at the new lease and I cant wait for bow season!!!!!!!

txbowhunter, how do you like that 75-300 IS USM? I'm waiting on a backordered one so I'm trying to decide if I should stick with it and wait for it or cancel the order and replace it with something else. The people at dpreview didn't have very good things to say about it. I still think it's about the most lens I can get for only $400 bucks. What do you think?

Very nice pics by the way!

Thanks!

I honestly think its a great lens for most uses. I think the people at dpreview like to compare $400 optics to $1500 L series optics. As you can see from the pics, it does quite nicely. If you want Its not a Canon 100-400mm L, but its also not $1300! Where did you purchase yours from?

txbowhunter, first off, great shots! I really like the Dragonfly! Did you get the 10D used? How do you like it?
I think if you hang around DPReview long enough you find that there are some "L" snobs, but then I've found that on most photography forums. I think the most honest opinions come from Fred MIranda. That being said, I think there is a difference between "L" glass and others. Be it build quality, optics, QC, etc...., but that doesn't mean other glass can't give you great results. I have a few pics from my cheap Tamron 75-300 that are tack sharp.

Gil, do a search at Pbase on the camera database for that lens. You should get plenty of samples to see the good quality of that lens.

Boy, a lot of Canon guys here!!

foulshot,

I agree with FM.com, that is where I buy all of my equipment :) I ALSO agree that "L" series lenses are great, I loved the 100-400 I used, but I dont think its required for average (IE not professional) photographers.

I got my 10D used on FM.com used and its great. Its my first DSLR but I am learning. There are a few things I dont like about it, mainly the slow startup time. I have missed a few shots because of that. Another thing is it doesnt support the EF-S series of lenses. I have a modified 18-55 EFS kit lens that works with it, but I wouldnt try to modify a 10-22mm EF-S :) Too much $$$. Besides those two things, I really love the camera!
