We got these little boars within the last month in Areas 3 and 4: there was a hole in the freezer that needed plugging. No trophies, just some good meat pigs. Me, Rich, and Josh. Rich actually got two, but I don't have his other hog. Same size range: 100 pounds (gutted).

He's got one more tag to fill and is going to be hunting with us: see if we can find a big boy to jab a sharp stick into. He's not squirrely like some of the Bozos that come out here looking for advice.

By the way, that's my rifle. I'll tell you the story next time you're up.

It's not that we're good (although we are), we happen to have the home field advantage.

Allen,
I have SIX tags left to fill with my stick and string! I'll be up twice next month for a little deer scouting and pig chasing...Nice hogs, freezer size are my favorite.

Get your butt up here Andy and we'll hopefully have some hogs scoped out for you. Area 3 is where it's at in my opinion. Lots of little watermelon footballs running around. "Trip" shot two wet sows in Area 5 over the weekend, but that was it for hogs coming in.

Sounds like a good way to plug those gaps in the freezer! Nice work!

Man, I just got home from a great hunt, and I'm already starting to look longingly toward the hills again!

How do you get access to hunt Vanderberg for hogs?

Active or retired military, active Guard, DoD employed or retired (if affiliated with VAFB)(which includes NAF and AAFES), some BoP, Chumash Indians, police officers if there is a letter from their chief filed through the Wing Commander. Guest of active or retired or active guard on a 72 hour pass.

Other than that, S.O.L.

Thanks for the information. Do you have any contact information to apply for a permit to hunt hogs in the base?

The Game Warden's office # is 805-606-6804. They can answer all your access questions. The regulations for the base can be found here
Vandenberg AFB Hunting, Fishing & Recreation

If you fall into the group allowed to hunt there (see post above), the base offers plenty of "opportunity". Good luck.
