At lakes anywhere, you can go from an underwater desert to a flourishing paradise in one easy lesson. Fish can get a new home made out of Christmas trees. For 10 years now, Pete Alexander at the East Bay Regional Park District has convinced Christmas tree vendors to donate their leftover trees. Volunteers then wire the trees together and sink them to create fish habitat at Del Valle Reservoir near Livermore, Lake Chabot near Castro Valley and Quarry Lakes/Rainbow Lake in Fremont.
