First, I would like to thank those of you who have given your signatures and addresses in my
fight to save hunting with dogs. It means so very much to me to know that I can count on your
support. For those of you who have not yet signed the Petition or provided me with
your address, please take a moment to do so

I am sure that you thought that I would leave you alone once I had your signatures and
addresses. While I wholeheartedly intend to put those to good use, I would like to ask for a few
more minutes of your time. With the letter-writing campaign and petition drive moving forward, I
would like to encourage a directed effort to generate a great amount of telephone and fascimile
traffic at the lawmakers.

I have included the names and contact information of the thirteen most crucial members of the
Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee. They are categorized as either likely to vote "No"
or "Abstain" (which supports hunting with dogs), swing votes (could go either way) and possible
"yes" votes. The initial assessment is based on past voting record and short conversations with
staff. I have not included the names of the other seven members who are likely to vote "yes" as I
think we must concentrate our efforts on these thirteen first. I have included the email
addresses of the members, but from what I understand, phone calls and faxes are far more
effective. Please do not be intimidated if you are neither eloquent or articulate; 3000 people
voicing their one sentence opinion in a professional manner is far more effective than one person
voicing an articulate opinion.

***In order to defeat the bill, we need ten "no" votes or abstentions to win.***

"Assemblyman Plescia,

I urge you to vote no on AB 342. This bill is not good for California or the animals that it purports to help. This bill is similar in effect to that of the mountain lion hunting ban. Although passed by proposition, the mountain lion hunting bill has had drastic effects on dear and bighorn sheep populations. In addition, 2 people have died due to increased mountain lion populations. By not allowing dogs in the pursuit of bear and other predators, a significant tool of wildlife management is removed. Please vote no on AB 342."



As a long time fisherman and new hunter, I'm not going to be silent as the environmental "movement" moves into my backyard. These guys really need to be stopped.

So far, the general dog community has not been too eager to sign on. The responses thus far have either been that hunting with dogs is cruel to the dogs or that it is not fair to contrue this bill to mean that any dog can be shot by a DFG employee (even though I sent them the text of the bill saying that it does).

this just came across this morning on the NAHC News-O-Gram.


A committee hearing has been scheduled for a pair of California bills that would ban dove hunting and hunting with hounds.

Assembly Bill 1190 (AB 1190), which would ban western mourning dove and white-winged dove hunting, and Assembly Bill 342 (AB 342), which would ban the pursuit or killing of any mammal by means of a hunting dog, will be heard on March 25 by the California Assembly Committee on Water, Parks and Wildlife. The meeting begins at 9 a.m. and will be held in room 437 in the Capitol Building.

The U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance (USSA ) is encouraging California sportsmen who can attend the committee hearing on AB 1190 and AB 342 to meet in the basement cafeteria of the California State Capitol Building at 8 a.m. March 25. The USSA says those who cannot attend should contact their assemblymen by calling (916) 319-2856 or by using the "Legislative Action Center" link near the bottom, right-hand corner of the USSA Web site, www.ussportsmen.org.

After I faxed my asembly man, 2 days latter I got a reply from Agazian thanking me for it with his signature on it. Good thing I let him put his sign in my yard for Nov. elections. Even though he is not a border line on the vote.

California Democratic Assemblyman Paul Koretz has amended Assembly Bill 342 (AB 342), a bill he introduced to ban the hunting of all mammals with dogs. The bill's new language will prohibit only the pursuit and taking of black bear and bobcat with hounds. But the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance (USSA) says while the amendment narrows the scope of AB 342, it's merely an effort to placate some sportsmen's opposition to the bill.

The USSA says if sportsmen become divided on the issue and sacrifice even the smallest part of the hunting heritage, Koretz and other anti-hunting legislators will have toppled the first domino in the campaign to ban all hunting.

The USSA is encouraging California sportsmen to contact their assemblymen and ask them to oppose AB 342. Sportsmen can call (916) 319-2856 or use the Legislative Action Center link near the bottom, right-hand corner of the USSA Web site at www.ussportsmen.org to find their legislators.
