i've never understood this....why pay someone to come in and eradicate these animals, when hunters would be more than happy to pay a fee for the pleasure.

professional hunters go about eradicating animals in highly efficient ways. everyday hunters do not.

Many of the midwest states do not allow hunting for a fee because inevitably it leads to MORE feral hogs. That's counterintuitive but when you allow commercial enterprise ... they start making sure they have product (plenty of hogs) ... habitat, etc. to maintain their business. Commercial hunting operations make the problems worse many times.

Well Said. Sometimes it is less grief to pay for a service rather than deal with some knuckleheads that turn up out of the wood work with a rifle. Look at the story posted a couple days ago where the guy invited his friends and had to deal with loaded weapons unattended around children amongst other things.

Yepp... that nailed it.

This is about extermination, not sport hunting. They want the pigs GONE, not managed.

Nebraska is one of the states that prohibits sport hunting for wild hogs. The potential cost to the livestock industry, crop damage, and habitat damage is much higher than the likely income from sport hunters.

The guide I hunted with in Texas said they do the same thing every once in a while. Even thou they have unlimited hog hunts that are booked all year round, they can not control the number of pigs on the ranches (working cattle and whitetail ranches). When the numbers of hogs and coyotes start to get out of control they bring in the helicopters. He said you would never know it, but if you flew a helicopter over the ranch I was hunting in all morning (without seeing any hogs), as soon as it flies over the “bush” you will scare up 100-300 hogs. He said it’s the only way to control the numbers.

Do they really think the 69 hogs they killed(in one day), is 90 percent of whats in the area? Most areas I've hunted, that hold pigs, you could hunt from the air for weeks, and be lucky to get 10 percent. 90% sounds a little naive to me..... but what do I know about Nebraska

Nebraska thinks they're still only dealing with isolated herds right now, so if they're correct they probably have a fair handle on the numbers. However, folks from states that have already been overrun know how hard it can be to get an accurate picture. Truth remains to be seen.

MO and NE are trying to stop the hog population boom, IA too for that matter. No rules, fire away and fall back.

It ain't working though.

I'm going to be scouting near our farm in MO where hogs are being taken and down by Lake Wappapello this year. JHO MO hog hunt coming soon.
