I got off work at 8am today and on the way home decided to stop and check out an area I drive past everyday. It's also an area I hunt and we saw a monster 8pt. in there and knew he made it though the season.I was hoping I'd find one of his sheds.
It's a patch of woods bordered by a working orchard that the deer hit hard after dark.I walked down the orchard a few rows in from the edge of the woods about 150 yds.when I hit a deer trail packed down in the snow.I followed the trail into the woods about 20yds. when I spotted a nice shed laying on top of the snow.As I was walking over to it I noticed a second shed laying only feet from the first one. Both sheds were right sides off different deer.I then made a few passes though the orchard and around the edge of the orchard.
I was headed back to the truck and headed across the orchard when I spotted another shed. This was a left side, but no mate to the other two.All 3 sheds were found within a 100 yds. of where my boy killed his Pa.4pt. last hunting season.
Not bad for a spur of the moment shedhunt.

Man, you're killing me. And speaking of killing, doesn't anyone hunt those areas you're shed hunting down there? I can't believe the numbers of bucks that are in your shed hunting areas. What's up with that? Up here abouts, I'd say they kill 90% of the bucks and the after hunt bucks are pretty scarce. I know you blister em pretty good but it's just so hard to believe the shedding you have.

Deershed, what do you do with all the sheds you find. It sounds like you have found a pile of them.

Shag-My regular areas where I do the majority of shedding is around the suburbs where hunting is limited or no hunting at all.The area where I found the sheds today is the idea location for the shed hunter and a nightmare for the hunter. For the most part the deer are nocturnal avoiding the area during daylight and a magnet for late season feeding after the hunting seasons have all closed.
Pa. has a 3 to a side rule in this area to be AR legal with the exception of junior hunters which made the 4pt.legal for the boy.We never saw a legal buck there during the 2 week rifle season. All 3 sheds would have came off AR legal bucks for all hunters.
Our other hunting areas get pounded hard like yours too.
BTW-after I got home this morning and hung around the house awhile,I went back out to another area just down the road. This spot is a state park that is mainly woods and all mountains.I started walking the trails in the snow and ended up finding a small 3pt. side.I'm really starting to like this shed hunting in the snow.

Bill M-I haven't figured out what to do with them,I just have a fasination with antlers. When I get my own place one day I'll have a trophy room where my sheds will sit next to my trophys I've taken over the years while hunting. To me my sheds rank right up there with my harvested deer.
