Since they are not considered firearms in CA, are they legal to use in "Shotgun Only" areas in the state?

No, air guns are not allowed.

Google the term “shall use”, then add shotguns only to the term.

Hi Antonio,
Typically, wildlife areas that have restrictions state which weapons are legal to use. If not listed, it’s not legal. But not always.
Many wildlife areas are State owned. For which wildlife area owned by BLM are you seeking clarification?

I was mainly looking at the expanse of BLM land (desert slopes) that surrounds the San Bern. National Forest. I'm wondering if air guns are ok to use, do to them not being categorized as ''firearms'' as well as having such a short (danger) range.

I've found nothing on-line, incl. ''Shotgun Only'' areas & my several attempts to reach them have failed.

Thanks!

Antonio,
I’m doing a little research. Can you show me the text that states there are weapons restrictions for that area?

All of the ''Shotgun Only'' area (SB Co. ordinance) that surrounds most of the San Bern. Mtns. These areas are shown on the San Bern. Shooting Map.

That’s what I thought you were referring to. I can find nothing from BLM that regulates weapons use in this area.

A couple things of interest: counties cannot regulate Federal or State lands, so my belief is that this ordinance does not apply to BLM lands. I would think it would apply to lands within the stated boundaries that the county regulates. Further, there is a disclaimer on that map that Federal law may supersede county ordinance. As far as ai know, Federal law always supersedes local ordinances.

I don’t hunt this area, and am not an attorney, so you definitely need to talk with BLM before taking my word for it. I could be wrong. Others in this forum hunt that area, and may know something different than my opinion.
