Ok who owns a alpen spotting scope what size do you have and what kind of review do you give it. One of my questions is, they very inexpensive, do you get what you pay for? I would really like to look though one before I buy.

You get what you pay for. Decent enough optics. Nothing like a high end scope. I lost mine in X-12 last year so there's a free one if you can find it. Their compacts are indeed compact and close to the lightest in weight. I could pout antlers on deer from way off and decent numbers of tines from not as far away (couple hundred yards). They wash out in the heat waves faster than others and they do not pick up very well in low light. The focus was hard to move but never moved out of place after.

It is much better to have one than to have no scope, unless you have some really kickin binos. If you tight on funds I'd say go by one. I honestly liked mine. For a long hike in hunt where weight is an issue they will fit the bill. They did fine at the range for tuning up the rifle as well. I believe mine was a 20X60.

I considered all the cheaper brands, considered renting spotters for big hunts and the like. Then I talked to a few guys about the NikonED 50mm 13-33x scope.

16ozs of backpacking beauty that has crystal clear optics and is something I always carry.

Here's the crux, I carry the dang thing on day hunts for pigs because it is so light I can always find a reason to carry it.

However I know guys that have $2000 euro glass that don't even take them on day hunts because they weigh so much.

It is everything I have told you it is, it is only 50mm but the optics are bright and it is always there because it is so light.
