Amador County

Does anyone know if Amador County have good population of hogs?

No wild Hog's in Amador County. I've lived there for a number of years, and have long time friends that have lived there they're entirer lifes. We hunt up country, around Shan.Valley, Fiddletown all the way down the Dry Creek drainage to Dry Town. Believe me if there where hogs we'd know it. My good friend that has lived there his whole life, and is one hell of a hunter who misses nothing would know! The country side looks like it could hold pig's, absolutely perfect. "NO HOGS." The only chance at a hog in the area is the one that escapes for the farmers pen!

Now if you want Mountain Lions we've go plenty of them... Don't get me started!!!

ORKlkBOW, Amador County is a long way from Beaverton, Or. What makes you interested in the area?

Thanks amadorhunter. I was just hoping to put more into my shopping bag when or if I come down there to hunt. My wifee's aunt has a co-worker who owns land somewhere in Amador County and I was planning on scouting it out sometime this year, for next season. They told me there was deer and waterfowl on the property but didn't here them say anything about hogs. Since there's no hogs, hows the deer population?

I caught two hogs in Amador County in the late 90's...none before or since.

I believe Amador is one of two counties in California that does not hold hogs. Sorry man.

ORElkBow we've got a few deer in Amador County, even some waterfowl, upland game isn't bad, a good population of quail and turkeys.

You know it would all depend on where your friends land is at, and how much huntable land they have, and how much land they have in gereneral. Say, if they only have 10 to 50 acres, with limited water and bushy area's to hold game. I'd stay home in Oregon. If they've got a sizable piece of acreage, with water, feed and resting area's, and lastly limited hunting pressure it could be very good. I would say that 95% of the lower elevation land in Amador County is privately owned land. ( I am very lucky to be able to hunt alot of this type of land. ) Up country as we call it, above two thousand feet and above the BLM, and Forest land starts to open up. But, then you have everyone and there bother, and all the flat landers to deal with, if you know what i mean!

As I stated in my first post about big cats, they are raising hell with our game population. Not only the deer, but all the small game and especially turkeys. Not to mention livestock... I've seen more cat kill's in the last few years, then I've seen in my whole life. But, again that is a whole differant subject.

Amadorhunter, thier property lies in the foothills of the surrounding of Sac area I believe. I'm still not sure what exact area but as soon as I get more info I'll pm you and hey maybe it's one of the property you hunt on. They said they don't live on the property but it is huntable. I believe this area is in the D5 zone area.

You are correct, if the property is in Amador County that would be D5. The one good thing about D5, is that you purchase a D3 through D5 tag. Which they never sell out of. I don't know how Fish and Game works that on non-resident tags, but for resident you can pretty much get them over the counter at DF&G in Sacramento.
