I am headed to colorado in october for my first elk hunt. I am using a 7 rem mag. I am not a reloader. What factory loads are you guys using. I prefer Hornady in my deer guns, but I am open to suggesting for this one. Oh I am shooting a Rem 700 and so far I have sighted it in with rems and feds and see very little difference.

A lot of people like Nosler Partitions. Remington Cor-lokts are another popular one. I shoot Federal's Barnes Triple-shocks. Shoot whatever works well in your gun and you will be fine.

I wouldnt shoot anything less than 160 gr. and maybe more like 165 or 170s. A couple of years ago I shot a med/lrg cow elk on the run at 125 yds and had an unbelievable blood trail about 40 yds and found her dead. I was using Accubonds, out of a Rem 700 BDL 30-06, 180 grains. Like the guys are saying, anything that is a "good and hearty" bullet, tough and built for anything. Nosler Partitions, Core-Lokt, Accubond, Sierra Game Kings, Hornandy has some great interbonds and bonded bullets. Like the other guys said, shoot what ever shoots accurate out of your gun, nice consistant groups. When I next go out of state to hunt large game I love the accubonds, but will also use other bonded bullets sometimes.

Any well built bullet will work great with your 7mag on elk. I recommend either a bonded bullet like an accubond. Federal loads the Nosler accubond (NAB) in 160 grains.

Barnes are another good option for large game like elk. I've personally seen an elk fall with one shot from a Barnes triple shock x bullet out of a 7mm rem mag.

Just stay away from lightly built bullets like power points and the like....

I shoot a 7mm Rem with Federal 165 BTSP, the Federal 160 NP would be another great choice, but really stick to what you shoot well. It is all shot placement and the 7mm is plenty of gun with a 150 grain or larger. I am heading to Colorado for 1st elk season this year. Good luck to you.
