Well.. My dad struck again. He must have magnets on his feet that take him to the pigs. He's been seeing them a lot the past few weeks and one nice one in particular. He finally got it tonight. Dropped him dead at a 100 yards with a 300WSM. Says its the best looking hog he's shot to date. Here's a picture of the beast...

Good job on that hog. I hunted Vandenburg some time ago with know success. I once met a guy at ft hunter leggett told me to mee him there one day but I'm still waiting for that day. I'm retired army but Ft Hunter leggett is closer for me.

Only military, retirees, Dod can hunt there.

Very nice looking hog. Congrats to your dad. If you happen to find the magnets in his boots I'll buy 'em off him.

Congrats to your dad.

Nice hog. Looks like the coat is newly combed.

The head with the mean tusk is definitely mountable.

Have never been there, but in July when I was thinking about going, this is what I was told by an officer on base. Active and retired military may go no problem. Each one of these may "host" a civilian to accompany them, but must be together at all times, driving and in field. This also means you need to check in and get your id checked, but that should be no big deal.

Things might have changed since then, but that was the last I heard. If this is different, can someone please post up what they know. Thanks in advance.

Frosty

ps. That is one bitchin' pig you got there!!!!!!

I talked to the game warden the day before yesterday and they claimed you can take guests on for fishing and just about everything but hunting. Everybody in the hunting party must have their own ID card. Can't even take somebody on with you that's just along to help pack meat without an ID card.

If you're a guest on VAFB they won't even let you in the gate without a ID card that they give you at main gate and for that to happen you need a sponser to vouch you on.

That sponsor must have vouching capabilites and they are liable for everything that you do on base.

My suggestion to anyone that want's access is to try and join the Rod and Gun club out there. They can sponsor civilians to go out there. They will let you fish but hunting is a whole nother story. As stated before you MUST be active/retired military or work for DOD.

Nice hog congrats! Couldnt help but notice the camis in the picture. Are you guys from camp pendelton? I try and get up to vandenberg when ever I can. I havent got a pig there since june though.Maybe we'll run in to each other sometime. I drive a gold ford ranger and usually stay at the fam camp or the area 4 camp ground(depending on where I am hunting). I was up there a couple weeks ago and got on some hogs a couple of diffrent times but couldnt close the deal.

good luck,
Rampage
