Looking to purchase a spotting scope for the upcoming hunting seasons (deer, elk, pig). What are the advantages and disadvantages of an angled spotting scope and the straight scopes? Also what lens diameter and magnification would you recommend? Mid-range brands?

I have an angled and I wish I'd bought a straight. When I use it from the truck with a window mount its hard to get it low enough to look in comfortably and I see no real advantage from the bench as any tripod could be adjusted to easily look through the straight scope. In fact, if you're using a small bench-top tripod, again, it might be hard to get it low enough to comfortably look into.

An angled scope is great for glassing elevations, alot easier on the neck. For horizontal viewing just rotate the scope body 90* and you won't have to crook your neck.
Both types have their advantages and personal preference is what matters. I suggest you try both and determine what yours is.
