annual President's hunt at FHL Feb 13-15?

So is everyone out? I live close (santa maria), so I'm stand by right now. Maybe we can tentatively plan a March 6,7 or 13,14. Weather should be better, roads drier, days slightly longer . . . you see where I am going with this.

Thats really close I woudl be coming up from L.A. with a trailer so I would be looking at a 4 to 5 hour trip which I don't mind as long as I get to hunt. I take several guns with me so I am not limited to just one area but I guess I am going to have to get into bow hunting too.

I looked at the TAs available and some are not too bad. 29, 27 and 13E look good. I am going up saturday morning early and setup and scout. I want to hunt sat evening and sunday morning. Maybe get in a evening hunt, see how it looks.

All in all awesome weekend. Perfect weather during the day, a little chilly at night. Westy and FForF are really good guys. Saw plenty of sign and were minutes behind the pigs. Westy made some killer elk/deer burgers. FForF had the BEST beef jerky. Even without seeing hog, it was a good trip. Would do it again for sure. Maybe next month. MMM.

As for the maps, i have a no BS military topo map of all of FHL. the PDF'S they give you arent to scale. Mine is a fold up that is 42"x36". Like I have said before, two of my best friends are military contractors who train the Seabees up their on a monthly basis. If one of you shoot me your adress in a PM, i can send you an extra one and then you can scan it in however you want. They are going up their on Wednesday for a 10 day mission and are going to bring me back an extra one. Let me know if you want me to send it to you.

i had a great time!got a chance to meet mike ,good dude.another hunter shot a hog in 16.saw a dead hog on the side of the road,brought a bottle gentlmen jack,jesse didnt show up, ,so had to put it back in the box .there was alot of sign,water and food out there .ill be back up ther soon,when it gets dryer and more ta;s are open.wish i lived closer.rick

Great report. Which areas did you up hunting? I wanted to go but not into the Archery thing yet. Any ideas on why the areas are closed? Did you see alot of training going on? Thanks!

we hunted 13e.my guess as to why they only opened a few areas was because they were worried about all the dumb ass people who think that if they have 4 wheel drive they can travel anywhere in there trucks,and get stuck .too bad, would have been great entertainment.rick
