Well let me start off by saying I finally got a pig. Now the back story I called Cedar Canyon about two weeks ago after Vandenberg closed the guest program. Cedar Canyon was available so i book the hunt for a friend and me.
We headed up to Cedar Canyon from Orange county around 2pm on Friday. Got there around 5:30 so we had about 45 minutes of day light left. We meet up with Bill checked my friends gun and my bow at the same time. Then headed out for the tour of the ranch. We headed to the southern portion of the ranch and Bill stayed with my friend and had me go up the hill to a bedding area. I saw a big one just at dark but it was to dark to shoot. We came up with a game plan for Saturday.
Saturday morning on the drive in it was foggy with a little bit of rain. As soon as we got to the ranch it started snowing and was cold. We headed out to hunt and didnt see anything in the morning just deer. I came out at around 9 am and Bill sent a quad out to get my friend since his radio seem not to work or he was asleep not going to say which it was.
We stayed at Bill's trailer and warmed back up till about 11 am then went back out the snow had stoped falling. We found some fresh tracks and i left my friend were we found them and set out following them. About a mile and a half later I finally found the pigs. I walked up on them (within appro 20 yards of them) and just as i shot they spooked and i missed. I found the arrow and took off following them again I found them on the otherside of the hill and took another shot this one at appro. 60 yards and watched the arrow fly just over the pig. So i again found my arrow and took off after them. Before I could find them again my friend shot one. I had pushed them in a complete circle right back to him. So i meet back up with him and called BIll who came out and picked us up and took us back to clean his pig. I took my friends gun and left my bow. I found my pig almost at the top of one many hills.
As you can see im not to good at the story telling bit. But I did walk/run a little over 8.5 miles across Bill's 640 acres so for those who say this is a canned hunt I would have to say "Go up and give it a try and see how canned it really is"
I would definately recommend Cedar Canyon to anyone looking for a grat place to hunt pigs. Its not as easy as people have said it is on here. Sunday when we went back out to pick up the meat i can say i was pretty sore and i would like to think im in pretty good shape.
Thanks for a great weekend Bill:snowflakes::snowflakes::snowflakes:
gotta love snow
