Went out again today to a new area that I found on the map.I walked a good while all in the wrong direction before I found any good sign.It was in the opposite direction from where I started off at.When I found the sign I couldn't believe how much there was.I had sign everywhere and no sheds.
I finally found a small 3pt., typical of most my finds. Then about a hour later I found a nice basic 4pt. side with 3 stickers and lots of mass. The only problem, the rodents found it first.I knew the other side had to be close by,the deer that dropped this side had to be off balance carrying only one side.
I gave the area a good grid pattern search and after only 5 mins. found another shed.It wasn't the match I was looking for,but a shed just the same. This shed was only about 50 yds. from the last shed.
Then about a half hour later and about 75yds. from the first half I found the other side.It was chewed too.
I covered most that new area without going further in so headed out to check another area.In that other spot a found 4 more in a little over an hour.Out of those one was half decent with a big base.It started out nice at the base than died out going out the main beam.It did have 5pts and was still a nice shed.
Here's some pics from today's finds.

Man, you must have some great spots! I think I need to start looking where there are more deer!

Congrats on all the great finds, too bad that big set is chewed up.

Great looking pair with tons of character....GOD-DARNED SQUIRRELS...that's one of my worst fears is finding a magnum antler or set and having it messed up by the tree rats. Nice finds....what's your total count so far?

Thanks guys!! Went back out today to look for the other side to the 5pt. from my last trip.Didn't find it,but found another shed that I thought was it's mate. Both sheds had alot in common and looked alike,no doubt both deer from the same blood line.
After a took my field pics and put the shed away.I stood up to start looking again there not 10 yds.away laid another nice shed.I threw the first shed back down and got a pic showing both sheds and how close they were to each other.
My main goal was to find the mate to the 5pt. I already had, instead I find two more and bigger 5pt. sides. My odds just went up that I'll add another set to my collection.
BTW-my total was 7 sheds today and 2 of them were from an old chewed set from last year. After today's finds my year total went to 65.It's back to work for 4 days before I'll have a chance to get out again.

Tsmola-use any pics you want.I saw your web page and think it looks great!!

Here's a couple pics of today.

I'm considering heading out tomorrow for a little while I'm not sure yet, I have to make prints to turn in for my photography class after my English class, if it dosen't take too long I might head out, if not I'll probably go out on Saturday...that is if Meijer doesn't call me in for my first day of work then

I finally got back out today.I first went to the spot where I saw some buck still carrying last week.I thought I'd check and see if they dropped yet.I didn't run into any deer so I started checking the area out.No fresh sheds, but I did find an old 4pt. shed.As I was heading out one of the buck I saw last week was headed back into the area I just covered. He's a nice high racked 8 pointer with about a 17"-18" spread.
I then went to the area where I found the 3 5pt. sides hoping I'd pick the mate up to one of the sides I had.No luck!!
I did find 2 more old sheds there a 4pt. and a spike. The 4pt. side was down along the creek where the floods last year washed the bottom out. There's no ground cover and you can spot a shed pretty easy.
Here's a couple pics from today.

Congrats Deershed. I got out yesterday for awhile and ended up with a decent 4 point shed with 7.5 inch brow tine. I went again today and found 4. Only 1 of the 4 were fresh. The first two were a matched set, they are chewed pretty good. The next is an old beam off of a huge buck. The last one was about a 50 inch fresh 5 point. I have field photos of them all, but they are on my 35mm. I still haven't got the Sony digital back from Sony. The little swim in the creek with it cost me 171.00 to fix it. I'm picking up my photos from last weekend on Thursday, so I'll post them Thursday evening.

IowaShedHunter-Congrats on your finds!! I see your numbers are going up fast.
Why is it we can find last years sheds this year, but we can't find them the same year they drop them.I'd say 1/3 of my sheds this year are old sheds.I've been finding new spots and extending my searches in my regular spots and alot of the old sheds are coming from those.
I went back out today and extended my search in two different areas. The first was where I found the fresh set that was chewed. All I came up with was a old 5pt. shed. All I saw were 5 white tines sticking out of the leaves.
Then I went back to where the 3 5pt. sides were found.I went further up the flooded out area and found a fresh Y shed.

Shag-I think this shed hunting is kicking my butt.LOL I've put in more time and walked more miles this year than I did the last 2 years together and that's not counting looking for those elk sheds.
Most you other guys are looking for warmer weather and some snow melt.I sweat my butt off the last 2 outings with temps. in the high 50's low 60's.I'm starting to check for ticks already.LOL

Things are starting to slow down here for me,now the frustration starts kicking in.I've got spots that I just can't seem to find any fresh sheds from this year.I know the deer are there. Not in the numbers they were last year, but enough that there should be sheds to be found.
Today I found a small fresh Y and a old 4pt. that was buried in the ground in a hay field. Also found a nice 6pt. dead that was there for a little while.

Today was the first I've been out since last week and only got to go out for a little over an hour.My two boys made the trip with me today.I got the little guy to go out for the first time this year Shag.I found 2 and each one I found I'd say I smell a shed. That little guy said I know you see a shed I'll find it,he spotted both of them right away. The one was a Y shed and the other a 4pt which I had found the other half to already. With the other half to the set today it gives me 8 sets for the year, another record for a year.

March 9th-I hunted local and found another 4 sheds. Not much to look at,but at least 3 were fresh this year.
http://img18.photobucket.com/albums/v55/de...inds_3-9-04.jpg

March 10th- 3 sheds today.I checked an area out local where I'd found a few earlier with the snow on the ground. Then went down the road to my regular shed hunting grounds.Local I found what I think is the mate to a shed I found earlier. This shed was sitting up against a apple tree in a working orchard.

My next shed for the day was a fresh shed that had already been found by the rodents. Then one laying on a trail that I'd already checked several times already this year. It's a small flat on top of a hill that the deer love.I found 2 different sets and a couple singles from this same place earlier this year.

Looks like you are going to hit that 100 shed mark this year! Congrats. It will be awhile for shed hunting over here in Iowa. We just got 9 inches of snow and it's still coming down. Oh well hopefully the antler rats can't find them either. Iowa had there deer classic this weekend, man there were huge sheds on display. I was like a kid in a candy store.
