Thanks Chris!! If I hit a 100 and I'm close after today,I'm taking a long break. This season's got me beat!!I'm hoping 2 good days of looking or 1 great day and I'll get it.Anyway my season ends,it looks like it will be over before most get theirs started.

March 16th-Today I added 6 more to my count,3 fresh and 3 old.
Two of the fresh sheds were off a buck I'd been trying to find his sheds off of.I was walking the hillside below my favorite flat when I saw both sheds laying about 15yds.apart.This set ranks up there with some of my best matching sets.

I found another shed that I only saw a single tine sticking out of the mud. When I pulled it out it turned out to be a nice size shed.It wasn't chewed, but definately been laying awhile.

Congrats on a great year!! Sorry to hear you are about done looking. We haven't even got a start here with the snow but hope that changes soon. Tyler and I have enjoyed all your posts while waiting to get tromping. If you ever make it to ND in the spring, you are more then welcome to come tromping with us.

Tyler starts spring break tomorrow. He is going to walk the area around the farm where I work. Course I have to work!! LOL I am only 2 sheds behind Tyler and hoping one day won't give him the upper hand though the rest of the season.
<
Still a lot of snow but hoping he finds a few as he is geared up for it and has been waiting a long time to go tromping. I'm taking Friday off. Will get 3 good days in, snow or no snow!! Should be a blast with hopefully a couple sheds.

Again congrats on all the sheds and thanks for sharing your season with us. Much appreciated!!

Deershed,

You have had an amazing season, I can't believe that you have found so many sheds!
<

That is a very nice matching set, do you not have many squirrels around there? You seem to find a lot of older sheds too. I have never seen a burried shed before either.

What is your total so far for this season anyway?

Congrats!
<

It is snowing as we speak, so hopefully it melts before the weekend so I can get out and find something else!

Great finds!
<
Looks like you hit the motherlode...
<

We've found about 15 or so Muley sheds this year and a winterkill 4x4. Snow has finally melted off so we're heading out Fri. to camp for the weekend and cover some serious ground!

Thanks guys!!Sorry, that came out wrong about my season coming to a end.I'll be looking til spring green-up.I was trying to say with all the snow most of you are having my season will probably be over before most yours start.I hit the 100 shed mark I am taking a break, but I won't be done.LOL My total after the 1 shed find today is at 94.

I did make it out again today.I had one more spot around the area where I found the set yesterday I wanted to look.I wanted to search that one small spot then move to another area.I ended up staying there all day trying to figure out where the sheds were and wasted the whole day.I went bach though covering ground I already searched.
I did manage to find another old chewed shed that was the mate to one I found a couple weeks ago.The 2 sheds were about 50yds apart dropped last year. That makes 4 old matched sets this year.I only had 2 old matching sets all time before this year.

TJF-when that snow melts I know the sheds will be coming fast for you and Tyler. You'll have to remind him who his teacher was.LOL Good luck this week!!Sheds or not it'll still be some great time together.

coyotebandit-I can't believe I've found that many!!I've been looking every chance I get and I've had alot of chances.I think I like shed hunting better then gun & bow hunting and have really been hitting it hard.
We have plenty of squirrels around here, look at that set that I started this thread with.I've been hitting alot of new areas this year and extending my regular areas.Alot of the older sheds are coming from those areas not that I didn't miss sheds last year.
Hope that snow melts for the weekend and you find some.

Leinie's-I checked my profile the other day and 80% of my post are here in the Shed Hunting forum.I'll be posting away and reading of others finds, when their snow melts and they can get out.

rphornhunter-Welcome!! And Congrats on your finds so far.Lets see some pics!!

fossilman-thanks!!

135inchsingle-it's been a good one,no complaints here.lol
Haven't seen those great pics of yours yet this year, how's your season going?

Well guys I did it,I found number 100 today!!If I die tomorrow I'll die one HAPPY shed hunter.I thought for sure I'd get close and the sheds would stop, but today was the day.
If that wasn't sweet enough, shed 100 was a sweet one.
I started the day walking the flood bottom where I found the three 5pt sheds. No luck finding any of their mates, but found 2 old sheds.I also found a fresh 3pt. that I saw still carrying my last trip in there.
I then moved down the creek bottom to a new area I hadn't searched for a couple years. Before I got to this new area I found a dead 8pt. that had some electical wire wrapped around his one antler. It was tight around one antler then had about 20' dragging behind him. Some was wrapped around his body, but not tight.I'm not sure if that was what did him in or not,I don't believe so.
When I got to this new area which is all open woods.I went to the top of the hill and right off the bat found another dead 8pt.This one had a busted up rack and was much bigger in body size.
After my field pics I hadn't gone 20 yds. when I found a little fresh spike shed. There wasn't alot of sign in this area, but I gave it a quick looking over anyway.I covered the whole area and was heading back to where I found the dead buck and the spike shed and found another old 3pt. about 100yds from where I found them.
It was getting late by now and I should have been heading home.I needed one more for my 100th shed and I had a spot close that I could check fast.I wanted that last one bad!!This was the area I found my first shed of the year and hadn't re-checked it for awhile. This spot was on my way home so I went for it.
When I got to this spot I parked and no sooner went over the bank when I spotted tines.I hadn't gone 75yds.from the blazer.I spotted it about 50yds. away,at first I wasn't sure if it was a shed.A few more steps and a little different angle I knew for sure. When I went to pick it up I saw that it had what I'm calling a small drop tine.I only ever found one with a drop tine and it was in this same area.As a matter of fact this shed and my other drop tine were found laying less then 200yds. apart from each other.
I believe the buck that dropped that 103" shed left his mark behind before he disappeared.
Here's a few pics.

Congrats on finding a 100 sheds. That is remarkable for a career total in some states. Just wondering what we the most you found in one day during this process? How many times were you shut out, during this march to 100?

When you are on a roll, keep on rolling. Great Job.

Things are starting to get a little green around my way depending where you go.
I went out last week for a couple hours the day after I hit #100 mark.I went back to where I found that last shed with the small droptine hoping I'd find the other side.I searched the same area over again then extended my search further out.All I found was a small shed chewed bad and the skull of a small spike buck.

http://img18.photobucket.com/albums/v55/de...Bottom_2004.jpg
I made it out today again to a new area,it was an all wooded area.My first find of the day was a old 7pt.skull.
http://img18.photobucket.com/albums/v55/de...20Found/7pt.jpg
My next 2 finds were 2 more dead buck. The one was old and chalky and the rodents had the antlers chewed pretty bad.It did have some nice size bases. The other was a 8pt. with about a 14" spread.Didn't get pictures of these 2.
I found 2 turtle shells, but still no sheds.Just about when I thought I was going home skunked, I found a 4pt.side.You can see the green-up I'm getting in this pic.
http://img18.photobucket.com/albums/v55/de...ds/Black_Rd.jpg

Chris-any sheds now are icing on the cake.I'd really like to add at least one up-state Pa. elk shed.

WBPruett-I had 2 days where I found 8 sheds each day.My average over the long haul was probably 3 a day. When I hit my regular shed hunting grounds down the road there was only a couple days I came home empty.Last year at least a dozen days there were no sheds. This yera has just been unreal.

I'm hoping to hit the 100 mark, I'm at 87 right now. I'm hoping to get out tomorrow afternoon for a couple hours. I have some good fresh places to go this weekend, I hope they produce.

Jonesy,

Hope you reach your goal. In my area of the country it would take an army to find what you and Deershed are finding.

I have viewed the post of your sheds and you have some super genes in your whitetail deer herd.

Here wishing you good weather, free time and promising ground to cover.

I added a few more sheds to the count and some more buck finds. All the buck finds are small and some had been laying for some time. These first 3 dead buck pics plus another old skull that had the antlers chewed down to nothing were all found on a small flat with in a 100yds. of each other.

I found this guy a little 6 pointer about 75yds. off the side of a road. Most likely he was hit by a car and ran off to die.
http://img18.photobucket.com/albums/v55/de...sh_Dead_6pt.jpg
This first shed pic was found yesterday. It's a fresh busted up 3pt.side I found laying off the side of a deer trail.
http://img18.photobucket.com/albums/v55/de...sted_Up_3pt.jpg
My first find of the day today was a nice 5pt. side.I love it when those tines stick up like that.
http://img18.photobucket.com/albums/v55/de...se_Farm_5pt.jpg
My next find was an old small 3pt. side (not pictured) then a nice size Y shed.I found this one in an old grown-up field bordering some woods.

Great looking stuff as always. Was the 100 yard flat of death a deer yard from this year?

Where those deer skulls were found it was some of the only decent cover around. When I spotted it I thought sheds for sure. Some of those skulls where laying for a good while. The rest of the remains from the deer were scattered around. The forth dead buck there the rack was chewed right down to the skull.
The first thing I thought when I saw the skulls and the bones laying around was the elephant graves.lol

I may have found my last WT shed for this season today. My season started back Jan 10th and now a few days over 3 months I'd have to say I've covered alot of ground.I've given most of my areas a good looking over several times and new areas also.I'm running out of sheds to find.I may still do some local looking and might find a shed or 2 while mushroom hunting. If I ever get up to look for elk sheds there's a small chance I might pick up a WT shed there too.
I went out the other day and found 3,one of them making another matched set for the year.I was out in the rain today and found one,a small fresh Y.
I have no compliants on how my season went.Total 110 sheds with 14 matched sets in the bunch.I looked hard for the other sides on alot of those, but guess the competetion beat me to them.
This first pic is the second half to the set the other day.I found this shed 4/11 and the other side the second pic 3/10.Both were dropped about 75yds. from each other weeks apart.Either on or with in 100 yds. of this same flat where this set was found I found a total of 5 matched sets this year.An area of maybe 200yds.by 200yds.

This last pic could very well be my last shed for the year. Not a very nice one to end the season on.lol

GOOD LUCK to all those that are still looking!!!
