[attachment=49498:photos_2...2007_002.jpg]We have some young dogs we are trying to work once a week. You have seen them in some earlier posts. On this day we were hunting at day break, as usual. We walked the bottom of the main canyon, about a 1 mile hike, no hogs. We called Flatbroke on the radio, he stayed with the quad. He rolled up to get us and the dogs. About this time I turned and spotted some hogs higher up this draw to my left. They were movin out and had a good jump on us, plus it was up hill. We started running up the bottom of the draw. Lucky for us the hogs dropped down and crossed the canyon. When the dogs crossed the fresh sign they all got excited. But Flatbrokes dog T-Bone was the first to pick up the track. He headed up a very brushy and large hill side. Buster (a Bob Fogel bred Black mouth cur) was not too far behind. The first barking I heard was a long ways up the canyon. It took me about 20 minutes of up hill and lots of hands and knees, to get to them. Plus I think the hog broke twice, and each time the hog made it further up hill. All in all I think we ended up about a half mile from where we started the hogs. It was a great day for these young dogs, they worked very hard.

I like to see some more dog hunters here on the board. I dont have any dogs of my own but my friend has about 10 and I loving watching them hunt. Do your dogs catch or bay? judging from the ballistic vests they grab. Do you use a pistol to finish the hogs or outlaw them with a blade? I think it's ridiculous you can't use a knife to finish caught hogs in california. Knives are by far safer for your dogs, and just as quick as a gunshot to the vitals if done right and you hit heart on the first thrust.

She's doing good at 4 months....great nose, loves to hunt the city pigeons, doing well with the obednience trainning. Next year I'd like to run your trap line with her a couple of times and see what's up. I have a feeling she will be a little hell on wheels and will need a muzzle to break her from catching. Oh and the girlfriend wants to breed her....we shall see about that.

They will bay a rough boar, but will catch sows and smaller boars. I finish them off with a pistol. Even though we can not use a knife, I will go in and grab a leg just for fun. I don't always fill them. A wet sow, or a hog I don't need- call the dogs out, or catch it then let it go..

nice hog Joel, sure is nice to see them young dogs doing well. quite a few hogs for a pup that just turned a year old this month..

MJB, Nice looking Jadg.. you'll have your hands full there. I have a 7 year old male that is as rough as they come. my 3 year old female is a little more mild, and a treeing machine..
what blood line is she out of. they are fun little dogs, when you cut them loose the fur is sure to fly..

Boarrunner,
I got her from James Mills in KY, Dam Cumberland Pack Freia, which is a Knite hunt line with Lex, and sire is Croation Laser od Suce with Aron who is some champion in Croatia.
She is very smart almost too smart, and very sweet at the same time, according to everyone I've talked to, Jim's dogs run a little hot.....so far she is great with other dogs and cats. Loves to hunt anything with wings, even got a point out of her while finding a hidden pigeon the other day.
