Another HUGE VAFB BOAR DOWN

269 lbs. Sudden Ranch Road Vandenberg Airforce Base. @ 9:20 am 17 Febuary 2011.. The boar had been beded down. Weighed in at the VAFB Game check station. Had a three inch layer of fat along his back and no grissle plates on his sholders.

Typically I would use my Model 70 .270 in such big country. When he was spotted he looked like a dead calf in a pile of mystard grass on the side of the hill. Not exactly where we expected to find this sleeping monster.. He was beaded approximately 90 yards off and above the road so I chose to break my slug gun in. First shot was at approximately 35 yards. I put one in his head entry and exit. AND the SOB got up so I put another between his eyes. That as they say is that.

Another intresting fact he had been Castrated and was not foul smelling.
What a trophe.

And YES that is a F-150 Step Side pickup.

269 / .78 = 344.871795
Live weight! That is without his missing testicles.

I dumped him with the 12 Gauge Winchester Supreme Elite XP3. Kicks like a mule but it did the job....

Interesting that in the midst of this conversation about ethical head shots with a bow that your pig proves a head shot is not always fatal. I shot one dead on one time with a 12g slug. It blew his entire upper skull off and the damn thing still didn't go down right away. Don't get me wrong, I am not criticizing your shot, just making a point regarding the "Ethical kill; clean shot" thread here in the hog forum. By the way, nice pig. You gonna taxi the skull, those are some great teeth.

Man I Q'ed up some of him last night. My wife who is a local girl of an avid hunter said she has never tasted such good pork. She said it was like eating Steak.. OBTW it was not heavily marinated or seasoned, just some Lowery's, garlic salt and pepper. Came out with 87 pounds of packaged meat. (Steaks, Roasts and sausage meat to be ground at a later date)
