You are out in legal Hunting area, and Low and Behold there is this really pretty 200 lb pig just wondering and foraging around. Well you are not in an area where pigs frequent at all, But there he is, you have your license and pig tags, do you shoot it ? you know it is somebodies 200 lb pet pig , but then you rationalize but its out here no where near a farm or homes, it had to be dumped here, after all 200 lbs of swine can be a PITA.
You Glass the area Nothing / no one anywhere just you and Porky ? I would have tagged and bagged it and told my self I saved it from be coming coyote food that night.

Is there anything in the regs that say it must be dirty with big nasty tusks and in an area the is frequented by wild pigs ?

the reason I pose the question is the rumor the someone has released some pigs into the Mojave river areas

Mojave River though... assuming they were even there could one even legally hunt them? I imagine it'd have to be North of the 15 if you even can there. Or up where Deep Creek lets out. The places I'd imagine they'd be turned loose don't really fit the hypothetical of no where near homes, etc.

It is mostly all under ground any more, it use to be called the hide and seek river, only coming above ground at the faults

Frankly i was in a situation like this.
With my wife we went to my deer property where i haven't seen pigs for over 5 years due to the big fire.
It is 12 mile dirt road drive in the middle of nowhere.
At one point i stopped to look for a quail covey which a thought it would be there. When 30-50 yard away from my car i see a pig running from a hill towards me.
I run to my truck to get my rifle. While i reach for the gun and load it the pig was already at my feet rubbing against my leg making happy pig's noises.
Can you imagine my surprise!
At closer look it was Vietnamese Pot Belly saw or what was the name. We played with it a little when Forest Service people came and they also were stunned of the view.

Than the Forces guy agreed to take this pig to his truck and take it to the nearest town.
When in the evening i was out of woods i called my daughter about it. She made a quick Craigslist search "Lost Pig" which was produced this pig's picture. She called the owners and the story was like that:
This saw for years had a "boyfriend" a neighbor's similar male pig. Every now and then they met and than had a litter of cute piglets. Then after the big fire when the neighbor's house burnt down they relocated taking the "boyfriend" with them( or maybe made a beacon out of him, the story is silent in this regard).
But the sad part of it is, every time she gets...starts missing him she goes to look for him. Everytime she wanders further and further. This time we found her 2 weeks after she ran away more than 15 miles from her home

And you say "Shoot"...

Yea, she was some sweet, jentle litle 200# lady who was lost and desperate for love and get home to her mommy.
She even had a red collar around her neck. Unfortunately there was no owner's name.

No it is not a permanent ID, as well as a white pot belly pig rubbing on your leg and begging for love.

I guess i'm neither, the hardest thing i could do is to pat her.

I do not know, i did not follow with those people, My daughter was in touch with them for a little while, but it's been at least 3 years since then.

I wouldn't shoot any animal with a collar. It's either somebody's pet or a radio/GPS tracker.

100% correct jack man but when one can not be in the field he might as well try to be in the know, Passing time pick up some new views and processes from current hunters could never be a bad thing, just take what you feel is valid and leave the rest.
Not retired like some one you and still have obligations, but when I can I am in the field. and when I can't might as well be here with you all, since none of us are in the field at the moment right Jack
